Here is the test to tell if a war is in face a war. Using it you find that our war in Afghanastan is indeed a war, but our war in Iraq is not.
Here is the test: If our side were to stop fighting and withdraw in a real war we would continue to be attacked by the opposing side. For instance, if we had decided to disenguage during the second world war it would have just been a matter of a short time until we would be attacked by Germany on our own soil.
On the other hand if our side were to stop fighting and withdraw in a sham war, like Iraq, we would not be attacked by the beligerent country.
If we were to pull back from the war against Ossama he (or like minded individuals he is associated with) would attack us in the future. However if we were to pull out of Iraq tomorrow there is no chance at all that Iraq would attack us at any time in the future.
