What Was With Bush's Jazz Hands?
Damn, but if that smirk wasn't enough, I've never seen such ridiculous use of hands during a television presentation since some guy was trying to sell ME a car NOW! And I half expected him to pull out a top hat and cane and break into song during inappropriate moments.

Did anyone else get freaked out by Inappropriate Use of Gestures?

1. it was very distracting
Kind of like that old skit where someone stands behind another and puts his hands through the front man's sleeves and then does things like put on lipstick and eat a chicken drumstick, etc.

9. I would not watch, but I bet it LOOKED drunken.
Way back when the cops drove you home when you were drunk (IF you weren't a hippie type but had a hair cut and tie and drove like a Caddy or Lincoln) I knew a guy in the electronic industry who also had a small repair shop a few towns over (try and find an electronic repair shop today) who drank A LOT ALL THE TIME (whom I am POSITIVE is now dead) who used to wave his hands around in a cartoonish manner like they had a third socket at the elbow. Now to validate this even further, this guy was a LONG time friend of Les Paul, and was always talking circuitry and mike pick ups and amps and all kinds of other cool things about electric guitars when he was in his shop hanging around.

The point is (get on with it I hear in the void) he was probably speaking with half a bag on.

Or just maybe he has something physically wrong with him, which would be why he is so disjointed in his speech and attention span too.

Is it supposed to hypnotize people into believing him? Looked just as silly as Rumsfeld with all his gesturing.

11. This is the second post that has mentioned this tonight.
Posts last summer mentioned a frequent "patting an invisible dog" tic.

Whatever it is, healthy people don't do stuff like this.

15. It all seemed "visually and audibly scripted" to me
The hand motions were noticeable. You could tell he had been working on his "enunciation" of the hard words. His body language was "confidant stiff". It's like he's been to some kind of "charm school" to make him appear believable.

I'm guessing we'll see the footage in future "Patriotic" commercials. I don't buy it.

18. Seemed to me like there was somebody behind the camera
mirroring his hand gestures along with him--coaching him. He started using them, them stopped and one hand starting moving on its own, then he started up again. Very distracting. But then the hands of murderers are usually distracting.

16. Makes him look more engaging?
It is usually a PR tactic or a speech tactic because it is "suppose" to get the person watching more involved and such. Why they think he could pull it off is beyond me, but nothing surprises me anymore with that man. the pResident is the worst person alive and one of the dumbest people around. So tired of it.

27. You just might be on to something
He has admitted that he spent his "early" years drunk as a skunk --

so if he really never stopped drinking his liver is probably in very bad shape.

And Asterixis is a symptom --

I just Googled Asterixis.

badly rehearsed and phoney. Nothing "presidential" as usual you would expect from a US president.

ARrrrrrrh.

BUT! I think he he made a fool of himself again.

25. yeaaaa, the jazz hands were a leeeeetle forced!!
it was probably too much for him to handle--with all the pronouncing the words right and speaking without um's and ah's, the incorporation of hand gestures was probably asking for too much.
