Rumsfeld buys "Mount Misery" (really)
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/19/politics/19letter.html?oref=login

<snip>

As anybody would tell you last week at the Carpenter Street Saloon, St. Michaels's unofficial town hall, two years ago Mr. Rumsfeld paid $1.5 million for Mount Misery, a former bed-and-breakfast with a checkered past. (The 19th-century red-brick house on 4.5 waterfront acres was built by Edward Covey, a notorious slave owner who beat the abolitionist Frederick Douglass on and off there in 1834, as recounted in Douglass's memoirs.)

Would you go to this man's bed and breakfast?

4. Is that where he's building his secret underground lair?
Oh, it's just a house. Honestly, in a sane nation a landmark like that would have been torn down and the earth salted generations ago.

10. Maybe next he can buy the camp where Anne Frank died.

What a morbid motherfucker. I mean, not that he bought it *because* of Frederick Douglass, necessarily- but still. He seems to be magnetically drawn to cruelty.
