Yahoo Is Tracking You Around The Web.
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 09:12 PM by hippywife
I did a search and only found reference to this in the Computer Support Group and they are not doing any recommending for Greatest on this topic. I thought I would post it here in the hopes you kind folks would recommend it so as many people as possible can see it.

Yahoo Groups New Policy Update

If you belong to any Yahoo Groups this is important . . .

Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track YahooGroup
users around the net and see what you're doing and where you are
going -- similar to cookies, but not cookies. Yahoo is recording every
website and every group you visit.

Take a look at their updated privacy statement:
http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy

About half-way down the page, in the section on cookies, you will see
a link that says web beacons.

Click on the phrase web beacons. That will bring you to a paragraph
entitled "Outside the Yahoo Network."

In this section you'll see a little "click here to opt out" link that
will let you "opt-out" of their new method of snooping.

Once you have clicked that link, you are exempted.

Notice the "Success" message on the top of the next page. Be careful
because on that page there is a "Cancel Opt-out" button that, if
clicked, will *undo** the opt-out.

It will allow you to do this while not logged in but if you have a Yahoo account, it may be wise to log in first.

2. Thank you! I'm not aware if I'm
in any of their data bases. Would I be if I only go there to answer polls?

5. No, it appears that you are only tracked
if you are a member of a Yahoo Group.

Thanx for all the recs, everyone! :hi:

I was logged on to my Yahoo account when I did it. It let me do it without being logged on but I logged on and did it again just to be sure.

Updated original message to note this.

11. Also, if you have Firefox web browser
you can customize it not to accept cookies..SIMPLE!....go to tools>options>privacy>cookies> exeptions..then click "ask me evertime". You can also sellect specific websites (like DU) to set on cookies.

NOTE:
Some websites will ask you repeated axess or permission for cookies, but once you deny them twice, they will let you in...the downside to this is that you will have to click "deny" twice.

24. OR
And this is what I do.

"Treat all cookies as session cookies"

Makes your Firefox an amnesiac, you're new to all websites every time you close/open the browser. ( ;

22. IMPORTANT! You must opt out of each browser/computer you use!
Don't overlook this!

Note: This opt-out applies to a specific browser rather than a specific user. Therefore you will have to opt-out separately from each computer or browser that you use.
