Can he be impeached?
What if, over the coming days and weeks, everyone accepts that Bush broke the law and violated the Constitution. No questions asked.

What position does that put the Republican-controlled congress in? What if they refuse to impeach him?

4. As long as we have a.....
republican congress and the media that we have today a republican president can never be impeached....Bush could strangle to death a girl scout on the lawn of the white house (on video) and he would get away with it....repubs and the media would spin it that he was protecting us all.

6. They won't do it
They'll go down with the ship.

They will never accept that they are wrong.

They must be replaced.

These Republicans in the House are the spawn of Nixon and Reagan.

They will never turn on their own. They'd burn their Bibles first.

7. Absolutely. And Based On Today's Developments, I think it might be
a certainty at this rate, naysayers or not. I think Rockefellers letter is a huge development, imho.

It's gonna be an interesting ride. :)

9. I think YES because if they think about it,
he has just negated their reason for being in congress. If he usurps the power, they will have none.

21. If they don't impeach, they will surrender what power they have.
Without oversight bush will achieve what he wants, dictatorial power.

Dec 18, 2000 president elect George W Bush said in an interview, "if this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier-
just so long as I'm the dictator."

10. Then the republicans in congress need to stand up
in front of the American people
ans explain exactly WHY they will not
prosecute a known criminal act
commited by a president who admits
the crime without remorse and
proudly flaunts that he will continue
to break the law in the future.

I suggest that each one of the
republican congressmen who
refuse to fulfill their oath of office
uphold the constitution and enforce
the rule and letter of the law
are themselves... co-conspirators
who should face justice.

11. what if pigs fly
A significant portion of the electorate, to say nothing of a majority of Congress, is not going to "accept" that chimpy "broke the law and violated the Constitution. No questions asked." That is the reality and no amount of dreaming will change it.

17. I do not share this confidence that he WILL get impeached...
...but the signs ARE favorable that is for sure. There are a lot of jobs on the line for the upcoming elections.

IMO not every republican is buying into bushco's hostile takeover of American Democracy. (Since when is torture an American Value for instance.) I think we will be seeing more and more of them developing a spine and/or a consciousness as the '06 elections draw near.

I also feel that many republicans will seek to distance themselves from the stigma of corruption which the electorate is sensing in that party. Those republicans who feel somewhat insecure with their positions may seek to strengthen them by helping the Dems get that impeachment.

I think we need to keep up the good fight by keeping that word "ACCOUNTABILITY" on everyones lips, (especially our representative's and the media's lips). ACCOUNTABILITY could and should be a Family Value!

Welcome to the DU BlueStater...a :toast: to you from chknltl

20. What example does it set for the children....
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 12:07 AM by C_U_L8R
that the president of the united states
can break whatever law he wants
without any consequence whatsoever?

And for that matter...what would Jesus do?

22. Can't speak for Jesus...
...would be nice if he put in an appearance and gave Pat Robertson a good swift kick in the...oops we were discussing Family Values, sorry.

Seems to me that one George confessed to cutting down a cherry tree and we are still using that as an example to our children two and a half centuries later. Makes sense to me that this george dubya can be taken to task for his crimes too... ACCOUNTABILITY is a great lesson to teach our children imo.

23. Hmmmm The story of two Georges
Both presidents
One - good
the other - bad
One - the father of the country
The other - a draft dodging coke snorting SOB
One - cannot tell a lie
The other - cannot tell the truth

yeah.. I guess Dubya could indeed
provide a great immoral example for
our children to learn from.

No one wants to be a dumb Dubya, right??

25. I like that! Great comparisons... a few more:
One - led his countrymen to Democracy
The other tried to take it away from us.

One - fought against the imperialists
The other was an imperialist.

One - got along just fine with France
the other ate "freedom fries".

One - is on the dollar bill
the other stole mine and gave it to someone with lots of dollar bills!

One - used lamp oil
the other was used by the oil industry.

One - rode a horse into battle
the other has difficulty riding a bicycle.

a thread could go on from here with more of these I suspect...:patriot:

24. I might get slammed for this but hear me out.
I can think of one Senator who would go for impeachment over this scandal.

Lindsey Graham.

Yes, he's my senator. No, I didn't vote for him.

But he does part with the admin on a few things and, most importantly, yesterday morning he said if Bush can't explain the legal authority to bypass the 4th Amedment, then we have a problem.

I really believe Lindsey Graham would go for it in this case.

26. Can he be Impeached?
Yes!
One example:
Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act
The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 prescribes procedures for requesting judicial authorization for electronic surveillance and physical search of persons engaged in espionage or international terrorism against the United States on behalf of a foreign power.

Requests are adjudicated by a special eleven member court called the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.

Willful breaking of the the LAW!

Will he be impeached?
Who knows?

...just a smoking gun. I say they chances are 55/45 at this point. Wake me up when a few key Republicans start beating the impeachment drum.

If they don't impeach for this, this country is royally screwed.

28. Not a chance in hell.
The same politicians that voted for the Patriot act will not impeach him. The same ones that marched onto the Capitol steps to say the Pledge of Allegiance when one lone atheist stood up for his child's rights will not impeach him. The same politicians who drooled over the Iraq war and still give us pablum about "staying the course" will not impeach him.

No way, no how, not ever, so long as the spineless, washed-up, meaningless national Democratic party represents liberal values in this country.

30. No, this isn't the 70's
Then, Republicans were willing to impeach their own guy because *gasp* he was a criminal.

Not now, not no-how. Oh, there will be a few who are indignant, who demand answers and who will eventually settle for a firm reprimand. Maybe a sacrificial lamb or two.

But until we get the majority, I can't imagine the rethugs voting for impeachment. And, hey, they have a good deal of the media in their pocket to help quiet this all down.

I believe in miracles, though. We are way past due for one.

With CongressCritters up for reelection in less than a year, they'll be listening and catering to their constituents. I used to think we'd have to wait until after the Dems reclaimed Congress in 06, but with this latest turn of events, Impeachment is on the table in a big and dramatic way.
