1. And the "war on terror" will last for all time...it has been around
forever. If he uses the "war on terror" as the "we are at war" excuse, he can destroy the Constitution. The "war on terror" isn't a declared war either.

2. He figures...
if he doesn't have to ask for it to be declared, if he can accomplish it another way, then he doesn't have to be stopped, justify his actions or obey any of the rules of warfare. He can call it a police action or something and therefore sneak all his shit in under the radar as people have done with wars previous. Apparently we haven't officially declared war in the prescribed way since WWII.

Bastard.

3. I said this yesterday.
Two rightists said, "oh, that's just a technicality." This is the social base for a possible fascist state. They will support ANY measure that is in the name of "security." Fascism is the original "war-against-terror state."

4. Yep! It's a marketing phrase
plain and simple. Congress never authorized "The War on Terror", nor were they asked to.

7. Actually I was thinking the Iraq War. But I have had an epiphany
is he again using the "war" in Iraq, which had nothing to do with 911, now being used to justify domestic spying?

Jeez, he's got everthing so screwed up that even I who tries to keep close watch, is tricked. His gymnastic linguistics are having an affect I believe.

WTF!

15. The "War on Terror" umbrella encompasses all of his
ambitions (and crimes) though. I was thinking a couple of weeks ago that all of us (Congress, other countries, reporters/editors, ALL of us) speak in terms of the "Iraq War" or "War in Iraq"; but Bush doesn't utter those words. He uses terms like "liberation of Iraq", "struggle", "fighting", etc.

When he says "war" it is always "war on terror".

He's perfectly happy letting the rest of us get down to specifics. Then he can refute and deny he never said <fill in the blank>.

10. It was during Vietnam that I learned that war needn't be formally declared
in order for the executive to make a hideous, bloody mess of things.

11. I was thinking the exact same thing.
We're not "at war" until Congress declares it.

Even then, they have to declare it against a specific enemy.
