Surprise of the day: Cornyn says yes to hearings.
Cornyn (R-TXass) just said on the floor that he is fairly sure the President was within his authority but that Congress should certainly hold hearings on the matter.

He's speaking actually sounding like he'd just been dressed down by someone... rather timid, when he's usually quite bombastic.

1. His version of a hearing would be a joke and completely
ineffective...but I am shocked to hear him say this. I am in Texas. Cornyn cheats, lies and steals.

8. I saw a quotation from him, earlier today, that said
"Freedom doesn't mean much when you're dead!"
Not very Patrick Henry-ish, is it?

Anyway, he has gone from saying that giving up freedom is better than being in danger, to saying we need a hearing; sorry, but I don't buy it...

2. I think they know that '06 depends on their reaction to this.
They are going to have to hold him somewhat accountable in order to look their voters in the eye come Fall.

4. I smell a trap for Democrats on this one. A few people are
making this into a big stink when it is not one and I think we are being led down the same road that got Bush to go up in the polls in just a month.

9. If it weren't a problem, Cornyn would ignore it.
He's the more malevolent of my two useless Senators, so I know the guy.

14. I recommend you reread the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence

and think about why America fought the Revolutionary War.

Would you trust Hillary Clinton to wiretap without a warrant, contrary to the law congress passed?

Bush broke the law and admitted it and said he'd do it again to "protect us." Read the fourth amendment.

16. Bush's "bounce" in the polls is negligible
And within the margin of error

17. Why do you think this is not a big deal?
What would you call a big stink? Going around the 2nd amendment, taking away guns with no legal authority. It's the same thing.

7. Still watching him....
I wanted to scream at him at his rationalization of surveilance of Americans and Bush's possible (according to him) legal authority to do so.

10. Dorgan's up (and cracking me up!)
"SUCK IT UP? Is that what you're saying? SUCK IT UP?"

"A pessimist sees flowers and looks for a casket. An optimist sees a pile of manure and looks for a pony."

13. Could it have been my phone call?
After I got the email from Kerry asking us to call our senators yesterday, I called Cornyn's office just for the heck of it to protest Anwar in the defense bill and while I was out it, I told the staffer I was outraged by the domestic spying and it was an impeachable offense.

You don't think they are actually listening to their constituents, do you?
