this may upset a lot of people but

why are there so many one liners with just curse words in them??, mostly from the 1000 plus posters, is it because you have nothing constructive to post or intelligent to say , or is it because you think the number of posts you make give you some kind of prestige?. How many of you really get out and help your party or candidate??

There is a level of frustration with the current state of things that I have never encountered. Frankly I have outrage overload.

What I do for my candidates? I donate money, I write letters to the editor, and as time allows I participate in GOTV efforts.

What I do with the current politicians? I write them letters and emails expressing my point of view and asking that they consider that in their actions.

There are a few here who actually work for the party and/or candidate. Some of us even run for office.

I try to curb it but I get so freakin' mad sometimes.

I am going to make an effort to stop doing it...believe me, post count has nothing to do with it!

I've noticed more of it recently, and I do have a tendency to keep scrolling because I figure I can jump up and down and cuss on my own time.

Like me, a lot of DUers use euphemisms to their best advantage. WTF even has it's own emoticon. After I figured out why Bush is often referred to with an asterisk, I started using the * in creative ways. I proudly claim the invention of *hole in place of asshole, because it's a two-fer. It doesn't seem to have caught on, though.

I am frustrated and angry and stunned at the continuous assault on our values. Bush and his ilk are attempting to grab power and money and to re-define the American ideals. I agree Skittles: they are destroying America.

I hope in 50 years, when my child looks back on this time, she will be proud of her mother who attempted to stand up for America during this time of assault.

Unfortunately, like many here on DU--I feel powerless and frozen in attack-overload. Short of protesting, writing letters, calling our representatives, I am not sure what to do. And it makes me want to swear:

I've been posting here since early 2001. The first time I came here I still had my "Gore Won!" sign, fresh from protesting outside the Palm Beach County courthouse building where Theresa LePore et al were examining chads, in the back of my car. Since then I have posted long winded analysis, diatribes, pleas, breaking news, and so on.

If on some night I have little more to say then "Wow, can you believe THIS asshole?" then maybe you could just cut me a little slack. I have pounded the pavement, banged on the doors, made the calls, attended the meetings and in general busted my butt. Forgive me for being a little tired some days.

We have nothing to say. Thanks for pointing us in the right direction.

I think people like to see their threads get lots of replies. One way to do that it to do just what you pointed out. There are a lot of people here, some of them are actively trying to change the world, others are just trying to get big threads. I would recommend focusing on the threads with substance and ideas for action and ignoring the useless flamewars. Although sometimes the useless flamewars can be an entertaining break :)

There are busy days when I'll have rather curt replies to a bunch of threads that were interesting to me, and then there are times when I'll start a new one or three, and spend some time working on better-researched, more carefully-crafted (and grammatically correct) replies.

I only write this because there've been times when I've been guilty of what you say (although I do try to curb the more gratuitous cursing), but it's not most of the time.

I think we are pretty alike in that way.

and this is not something I encounter on this website. I encounter it in real life:

People who WANT to curse, but who also want to maintain that "clean" image as good, God-fearing, people. They will say something like, "I can't get the God-blasted faucet to work!" Somehow, it is okay to say "God-blasted" instead of "God-damned". Why, I wonder?

Then there's the very suburban "Oh, my word!" I swear, if I had a nickel for every time I have heard this from some slim, blonded, well-heeled SUV-driving suburban wife, I would be a millionaire. "Oh, my word!" It's oh-so-civilized. It's oh-so-fit-for-mixed-company. It's oh-so-proper.

That sort of thing bugs me far more than does my friend who is likely to say of certain politicians, "Well, fuck him and the horse he rode in on!"
