Check Out the Local NYC Fox News Logo for the strike >>>
How's this for unbiased coverage? Splashed before every commercial break, in the shape of a stop sign, they are running this as their logo:

ILLEGAL
TRANSIT
STRIKE

4. Many things are true. The could run LONG OVERDUE TRANSIT STRIKE
And that would be true as well. They could run WORKERS STRIKE WHILE MTA SITS ON ONE BILLION DOLLARS.

3. NYC is rapidly degenerating into....
a one party ( $$$$$) state. All of the media is parroting the same anti-union tone, not just Fox.

Bloomberg... the poster boy for this phenomenon... was just reelected by 19 points (BTW, the corporate media INSISTS on referring to this by "20").Tough times ahead for progressives and people of limited means.

5. I am mystified that nobody seems to blame Bloomberg for this
He had the nerve yesterday to snivel that the workers were "selfish." This from Mr. Michael "I'm A Billionaire With A Fifth Avenue Mansion Who Weekends In The Bahamas And Bought My Office For Only Half A Billion Dollars" Bloomberg. He's a slimy little prick. He won by 19 points, unfortunately, because the party machine rules the process and they came up with the worst possible candidate, who didn't have a chance against all that money anyway.

Ta ta - off to walk from the Village to Grand Central. Solidarity! :)

12. Good point.
And I might add he was re-elected WITH the help of the Union. As was Pataki.

7. But the LTTEs in the Times today...
are almost all pro-union.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/21/opinion/l21transit.html

"We must not lose sight of what is really bringing this crisis about.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the mayor and soon the governor will claim that it is the intransigence of the Transport Workers Union. They will repeat their mantra "illegal strike" and cite all the inconvenience and dire consequences of the strike.

The real reason for the deadlock is a Republican-inspired sense of prerogative to undermine the last vestiges of government responsibility for retirement and medical obligations to its citizens.

The M.T.A., the mayor and the governor are willing to shut down the greatest city in the world not because of hard budget numbers but out of sheer arrogance in insisting on the right to deprive future workers of the same benefits as current T.W.U. workers.

Ever since the air traffic controllers' strike in the 1980's, the underlying strategy of the G.O.P. has been clear: Erode the benefits and obligations of the social safety net. Today, the results of this movement are apparent everywhere in our society. "

9. The NYT is and has always been politically schizophrenic.
There seem to be multiple ideological camps pushing and pulling in all directions. LTTE is the best feature in the paper from the progressive POV... with views that are often better written than the original reportorial and OPED items about which the letters are commenting.

I'm assuming the editorial page has expressed it's usual contempt for municipal workers... and indeed, organized labor everywhere. (Admission: I haven't read them in re. to this strike). Also assuming that the reportage has been similarly skewed... only because it always has been.

But yes, give the devil his/her due: they publish good LTTEs.

in spite of the incompetent leadership at the Times these days.

Did anyone have a problem with posting from "Bloomberg News" about the fine the judge imposed in...Bloomberg's lawsuit?

13. Yup
And they are focusing on hypotheticals like : "what if someone has a heartattack walking across a bridge" and...what if someone dies in a Ambulance because the roads are congested.

Makes you wonder if FOX has some sort of agenda.

15. As far as an "agenda" goes....
...somebody pointed out on Air America yesterday (I think it was a caller on the Majority Report) that a similar strike to this one took place in Memphis in April 1968.

That date ring any bells?

Wonder who the Bush Criminal Empire wants to kill this time? :evilfrown:

It asks if the transit workers were right to strike.

Bottom right of page. So far its an overwhelming "no" and it sickens me.
