Trip Notebook- *first lady gets foot massage
Anyone else seen this? The life is good, I feel fine, watch this drive, we had a very good year, no worries world of *jr and Laura:

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - Foot massages, highly popular in Thailand, have gained another convert.
First lady Laura Bush enjoyed one so much that she promptly snapped up $250 worth of massage oil and powder after a 20-minute session.

>snip<

Following a long-standing tradition of donning shirts of the host country, each of the leaders showed up at a photo session at the APEC forum in one of the Thai garments, each valued at about $2,200. They came in various rich shades of blue, burgundy and green, with President Bush choosing one of an ocean blue hue.

Most Thais couldn't buy one even if they worked for an entire year and saved every penny. The nation's average annual income is $1,960. It's about the same situation for Filipinos, Chinese, Russians and Peruvians, also citizens of Asia-Pacific economies.

>snip< and they've closed a Brahman shrine while the 'royals' visit:

A spokesman at the hotel where Bush is staying said police told the hotel that visitors bring many offerings to the shrine which would have to be checked out by security personnel. That, plus the pervasive, potentially offensive smell of incense, led to the decision to close it.

>snip<

Laura Bush will join luminaries such as Ricky Martin, Margaret Thatcher, and Princess Diana on Tuesday when Singapore names an orchid after her.

1. Name an orchid after her??
Well if they name one after Ricky Martin, it can't be that big a deal.

2. Dick Morris would have done the foot massage
for nothing. (Put that on another thread) I'm more interest if Mrs. Bush got the $187 million she asked for out of the $87B for a children's hospital in Iraq. She also asked for a few million to beautify Pennsylvania Avenue (don't know where that was supposed to come from.)

3. Even more....
They turned a half-kilometer riverfront section of Bangkok into a Potemkin village to impress our witless wonder:

Anxious to present a sanitary image of Thailand to George Bush and his fellow leaders in Bangkok this week for an economic summit, the prime minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, has covered a slum with a huge banner.

When the visitors watch a procession of royal barges tonight on Bangkok's Chao Phraya river, their view will not be spoilt by the grubby shacks that line the bank. Instead they will enjoy a panorama of scenes from Thai history and culture painted on a tarpaulin 500m long and four storeys high.
