Child support payments to go to feds - Families to lose income
Child support payments to go to feds
Families to lose income

By Judith Davidoff
December 21, 2005

The father of Christina Spears' two young children has been dutifully paying child support for the last couple of years.

But come New Year's Day these payments - Spears' only independent source of income - will start to shrink dramatically, thanks to a move by the federal government.

Spears, a Madison resident who is disabled and also has a 17-year-old foster daughter, was devastated to learn she'll eventually lose more than half of her nearly $900 in child support payments as payback to the government for cash benefits she received while on W-2, Wisconsin Works, the state's welfare-to-work program.

"I think that it's horrible," said Spears, 29, who left the welfare rolls in 2003. "It is hurting the people that need it the most. It's basically pushing people back to needing the programs themselves again. I'm going to have to reapply for programs instead of getting off them."

not suffer if their parent violated some bogus rule

2. The BFEE LOVES poor people.
This is why Repukes HATE the New Deal and anything FDR did to save America. The double standard is that while they HATE poor people and social welfare programs, they LOVE giving massive tax relief to the ultra-rich and huge corporations. Poor people don't pay for elections.

11. You have stated the first rule of the 'Puke primer: they must love poor
people or else they would not have made so many of them. (Compliments to Tevia).

Everything's a "loan" now.. There's no "helping hand"...well there is, but the hand's got a razor blade in it..careful..

7. If I read this correctly, this rule was actually passed in 1997.
So its not a * thing. Wisconsin had received a waiver that is now expiring.
