Rob Boston is driving Fox's John Gibson over the deep end.

Anyone familiar with Fox News broadcasts has come to expect a level of professionalism on par with an elementary school food fight, but once in a while, even the FNC gang manages to surprise.

C&L and Newshounds offered terrific coverage last night of Fox News' John Gibson completely losing his mind, on the air, while "debating" Rob Boston of Americans United for Separation of Church and State on the so-called "war on Christmas." You really have to see it to believe it.

A brief description won't do it justice, but when Rob mentioned that most of the right's talking points on the issue have been debunked, Gibson started screaming, "Are you calling me a liar?!" I'd say Gibson was furious, but that's an understatement; it was much closer to pure rage. He ultimately threatened to sue Rob, calling his on-air remarks "actionable." (Rob should be so lucky.)

But I wanted to take the story a little further. Rob Boston happens to be a close friend and former colleague of mine, and he called me last night to talk about the interview. More importantly, he told me about what happened after the segment.

A couple of hours after Gibson's show ended and Rob went home, Gibson's producer called Rob's cell, saying, "John's really upset that you called him a liar." The producer asked if Rob would be willing to appear on Gibson's radio show for Round Two. Rob, who managed to keep his cool while Gibson became unhinged, said he would.

Before they could schedule an appearance, Gibson got on the phone and to start screaming again. Rob, who does not suffer fools kindly, told Gibson the truth — explaining calmly that Gibson is a clown, Fox News is a joke, and their nonsense is demagoguery.

Rob could practically hear Gibson's head exploding over the phone. Eventually, Gibson said, "Don't come in where I drink… Don't come visit a bar when I'm in there." After Rob asked if Gibson was threatening him, Gibson hung up on him.

Because I don't drink, and it would be amusing to fight a rich, drunk asshole, and then yell HAPPY HOLIDAYS as he's laying on the floor covered in whaterver he was slurping down before I spread my yule tide cheer unto him. :D

How anyone can have an ounce of self-dignity peddling the insane, cowardly, offensive stuff he does is beyond me. It's really telling how he jumped on the word "liar" when your friend, it seems, never used the word. Gibson is telling us all what he thinks of himself.

Just put the grinch hat on ole Bleach Head and put some phoney reindeer ears on the toadie who was supposed to be the attack dog on this ahem "discussion" (coughbullshitcough).

Now some of this was show, some was real sizzle. Gibby's never been more famous in wingnut land and his "constiuents" are the most kool-aided (who else would be watching that tripe of a network in the middle of the day???). He gets the people who just got their daily doseage of Rushbo on the radio...are loaded up with the talking points and ready to turn a non-story into the next big scandal by Hannity.

Gibson intended to use this segment to bash a "librul" and sell some books and let his buddy have the honors. But when Boston brought up the Plano and Saginaw bullshit...which Gibson's buttons were pushed. I think Gibby saw a lot of the nasty shots that have been taken at him over that issue and wanted a piece of Boston to scream at and hope to "circle the wagons" with his viewers. This is right out of the Morton Downey, Jr. book that came from Joe Pyne and so on.

The fun is seeing how really pissed Boston gets Chief Fox Red In The Face...when he goes to the break he's ready to roast turkeys.

Intellectually, Gibson was waaay out of his league. I wish I could have seen it, but I never insult my beautiful mind with Faux News.

Rob Boston should be an example for anyone who appears on Faux News and wants to really make them go screechy! He just calmly refuted everything Gibson said and continued to restate the facts. Beautiful.

Visiting, and noticed a waiting room TV on MSNBC. I went past there a few minutes later and there were 2 doctor types talking and the TV was now tuned to Faux and the news was on. Go figure, it's the combination of freepers and Dr's that keep Murdoch in Tostitos.
