Curtains Ordered for Media Coverage of Returning Coffins
Since the end of the Vietnam War, presidents have worried that their military actions would lose support once the public glimpsed the remains of U.S. soldiers arriving at air bases in flag-draped caskets.

To this problem, the Bush administration has found a simple solution: It has ended the public dissemination of such images by banning news coverage and photography of dead soldiers' homecomings on all military bases.

This out of sight out of mind mentality bothers me greatly. Does it bother anyone else?

1. I guess that the chump-in-chief thinks that if we don't see the coffins,
they won't seem real to us. He is an ignoramus.

2. the victims in the Coffins
deserve to be honored. Maybe the word I am looking for is acknowledged. They are dead, nothing worse than that. At least allow the country to see the cost of never ending war.

Pretending they didn't really die is as shameful as it gets.

3. maybe the sight of 120+ coffins lined up end to end
(that is the latest number I know for the soldiers from Ft Carson alone) would shake some of these complacent, unthinking supporters of the nitwit out of their fog. or maybe being forced to attend the funerals, and see the families.

on the other hand, that would require having both hearts and minds, something I think is sorely lacking.

4. Yeah, it bothers me big time
But it doesn't surprise me one bit. This whole (hole) administration is one big spin-cycle. All smoke and mirrors.

5. Look how much the freepers care

We aren't fighting the war to kill soldiers. If that is the whole focus then the public will forget the reason we are there is to help the Iraqi people and protect the US. The less said about American losses the better. This article is a riot because there is nothing the Post can do about it, but complain.
