Dear Gov. Dean -- The destruction of meaning …
25 December 2005 (# 20)

How does one know what the teachings of Christ mean when the term “collateral damage” is applied to frying the skin on an Iraqi child’s body with white phosphorus?

How does one know what the word God means when those loudly proclaiming his existence contaminate a mother’s drinking water with depleted uranium?

How does one know what the word democracy means when it is common knowledge that no one in America can verify that their vote was counted as they intended?

How does one know what anything means that emanates from the mouth of Bush, Cheney, and of way more than half of all the Members of Congress (e.g., www.mediamatters.org/items/200512240002), when everything one reads and hears is readily shown to be a lie?

What does Christmas mean when those most concerned with what a tree is called are only too willing to label war of aggression, the murder of thousands of innocent civilians, the destruction of the economic, social and civil infrastructure of a Nation, the incarceration and torture of countless numbers of individuals – “spreading democracy”?

When one confronts a situation in which the expected meaning of a word or a statement is persistently undermined -- is constantly contorted, distorted, and done so intentionally, recourse is limited to either complacent cynicism, or robust rebellion.

My choice is robust rebellion against the vast crimes of Bush, Cheney, and their neoconster associates and enablers (financial and media).

For me, robust rebellion means comprehensive, unrelenting application of the law to those who have committed crimes.

I call upon every person who has taken a Federal oath of office to decide if they either mean what they swore, or not.

For those who mean it, I call upon them to join forces and bring Bush and Cheney to impeachment in the House of Representatives and trial in the Senate.

Thereafter, Bush, Cheney and their co-criminals should be rendered either to an American War Crimes Tribunal (e.g., www.bushcommission.org) or to The Hague as to enable all those whom they have harmed to hold them accountable before the law.

The DNC should mandate that no candidate will receive one dollar of financial support, one moment of endorsement who does not proclaim their unswerving commitment to bring Bush, Cheney and their neoconster minions to impeachment and prosecution by the US Congress, as well as, holding them to the fullest personal accounting to all those whom they have harmed via civil and war crimes tribunal proceedings.

What meaning “Christmas,” if those defending it are willing to wage imperialistic aggressive war, torture anyone, deny habeas corpus, deny due process, contaminate drinking water and soil with radioactive substances, sear the skin of a person with white phosphorous, and vaporize a child and his mother with a “smart bomb” only to label the brutal termination of the only life they will ever have as “collateral damage.”

Let’s make a decision, Gov. Dean, now – “America, Or Not?” We both know exactly what I mean.

I’ve made my decision, what’s yours?

Peace,

1. To The Hague with the entire cabal of criminals!
Have I told you lately how much your efforts are appreciated? Really. You continue to amaze me. Are you getting any direct responses to your letters yet? No matter, I think they will get through. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you UL!

5. Thank you very much for your thoughtful words. No "direct responses" ...
... as yet, but, I can only hope that Gov. Dean and others will find the letters helpful.

All the best to you and your family during the celebration of Christmas, other special observances, and the New Year.

Peace.

19. as usual
no messing about

that's what's needed

maybe as someone who knows a little more about due process etc than i do you could explain to me just why, after clearly flouting the constitution .. these bunch of psychopathic gangsters haven't been dragged off already?

they got dobermen protecting them or what?

why hasn't a good man in the white house just koshed their sorry ass and dragged them off to a court somewhere?

why is the question "should he be impeached"?

im kind of thinking "why are they still walking free, today?"

the entire future of mankind could depend on it if this snowballing momentum they seem to be generating gets any further ...

the worlds worried, why isn't america dealing with these gangsters already?

20. Yes, indeed, "why are they still walking free, today?" Because those ...
... sworn to the various offices that are expected to apply the laws of the land, aren't (mostly) doing their job. That's why it's up to us to demand they do their job, or replace them in November, 2006.

Prior to that, we do have folk in the DoJ systematically applying the law to Abramoff, Cunningham, Libby, ....., and we can hope the list gets much longer in the next few weeks.

Peace.

21. nice to know some are on the case bro
it's unsettling to think this will be decided at the ballot box though, don't have lotsa faith in it at the mo :wtf:

i'm starting to think that those blindly marching with them have been promised a seat on some ARK somewhere

because no one who supported this is going to survive the fallout, makes me wonder if they plan on leaving anyone alive to convict them!

everyday that goes by draws closer to something larger, Iraq was a litmus test im sure of it and never hoped id be more wrong

lets hope 2006 is a good year for earth:kick: :nuke: :tinfoilhat:

7. They'd fire Dean if he signed on to this
The DCCC and the DSCC do the recruiting of candidates and the DNC has to remain neutral until after
any primaries.

Unfortunately, I doubt many in Congress would send Bush and his regime to the Hague. Americans are too arrogant, and it will be a long time before we accept ICC.

I understand the OP's feelings about Bush. BUT Dr. /Gov. /Chairman Dean DOES NOT _MAKE_ policies like this. If he tried, 24 hours later the spineless Dems who always clamor aboard the "Dean is a crazy liberal" bus would feign outrage along with the RNC.

13. Then he would have led a defining moment for the DNC and a ...
... everyone would then be able to make a choice - "America, Or Not?" I think Gov. Dean and those who would follow him could then begin the arduous task of holding the criminals accountable, defending the Constitution and restoring America.

Anyone who thinks America has the luxury of politics-as-usual has not been paying attention.

Thank you for your comments and I know the standard role of these various orgs - unfortunately, the actions of Bush, Cheney, and many others, including numerous members of Congress, have rendered America a lawless, rogue state. It is time for those in the DCCC and DSCC who care about such things to join with Gov. Dean and those members of the Democratic Party, including current office holders, who realize the severity of the crisis and begin campaigning and, more importantly, bringing the offenders before the law.

Peace.

22. Then he must choose whether he believes strongly enough that he should
lead or follow the party. There is obviously some missing pieces that we don't have, but those who know that our democracy is at stake, knows there can be no more business as usual.

10. Nixonians redux
Those punished now have books and radio shows. the same of Iran Contra felons and liars. Some of those and many unscathed by edited justice falling short and upon its own swift sword are now ruling- RULING the country with unspeakable crimes.

President Ford finally made Nixon's bluff "Put this all behind us, move along for the good of the nation"
work at the cost of the last vestige of GOP integrity and his own presidency. Everyone lost, including the ill defended myths, but not the crooks. The cancer joined others and thrived vengefully. Justice denied, for the good of the country has cost this country a coup, impoverishment, death and war and it's very soul in raped principles.

The Democratic Party in imitating the under-the-rug pleasantries of Ford will eventually share his fate collectively. That is as undeniable as the disasters many easily predicted about the Iraq invasion and occupation. Just as undeniable- with only the details of death and harm to be filled in like some bonus trivia questions on the test some Gravitas leaders seem determined never to answer.

What MORE national harm can be done by the weary hunting down and prosecution of the thieves, traitors and murderers who will slink away with their loot and continue to corrupt the nation through their power and media? How can we EVER prosecute another criminal or war with any credibility if these poisons are tolerated because it hurts to really treat a disease. Healing wounds by overlooking responsibility and preserving bloody myths will be the death, the real death of us all.

14. I agree, as I tried to express in comment # 13. Thank you for your ...
... cogent statement of what we must do -- bring the criminals, all of them before the courts and give them a fair trial.

That is the first-order business of America if we ever wish to be perceived as a Nation of laws, instead of the bunch of ruthless hypocrites many now see us as being.

Peace.

11. Great work again UL
Nice phrasing...we have a new addition to the lexicon (in bold):

"Bush, Cheney and their neoconster minions to impeachment and prosecution by the US Congress, as well as, holding them to the fullest personal accounting to all those whom they have harmed via civil and war crimes tribunal proceedings."

I personally predict that the Democrats will barely survive as a party, which i think will be a shame, because they fail to seize the time. It they would, as you suggest, the results would amaze them and help us.

Now as to your question, "What meaning “Christmas,”...well what meaning indeedif it's on the wrong day and the wrong season! Happy Festivus. Let's get Christmas back on the correct day (but please keep the shopping, we'd go under as an economy without it).
