And in Miami, Castro's insult towards Condi Rice is viewed as a "danger"
Edited on Sun Dec-25-05 12:22 AM by RagingInMiami
Ok, as some of you know, I'm not the biggest Castro fan on DU, simply because I believe that any president who's been in power for forty years and wears nothing but military fatigues is a dictator. But this thread is not about that.

In Miami, home of the "Cuban Mafia", as Castro likes to call the right-wing Cuban exiles, I'm viewed as a communista because I am a die-hard liberal. And on DU, I'm viewed by some people as a freeper because I don't think that Castro is the messiah, but as I said, this thread is not about that.

It's about the media spin the Miami Herald creates out of the previously discussed story where Castro called Condi a come mierda, literally a "shit-eater."

I agree with Castro 100 percent. She's not only a come mierda, she's a lying bitch. But the following is a quote that ran in the Miami Herald that has been altered for the Cuban Mafia, hence the ellipsis:

''The danger is that as he becomes more isolated because of his declining health and his age, he's becoming more cantankerous and . . . the quality of his leadership is deteriorating,'' Latell said (An CIA guy who wrote a book called "After Fidel", who must be on every Miami Herald reporters' rolodex.

Here is the story.

10. I'm doing cool
Looking forward to the new year because I think it's going to be a good one, for the nation and for me personally. Of course, I say that every year.

We'll definitely have another meetup in 2006. I had a blast last time.

4. Fidel called Jeb, Dubyah's "fat little brother" and then he calls
Condi a "shit eater" and people think he's cantankerous? Which is worse, a dictator in fatigues or one in an Armani suit paid for by the campaign contributions of billionaires? Fidel is not the messiah, but his comments are pretty much dead on lately.

9. Shallow and apolitical as it may seem, I'll miss Castro when he goes:
<snip>

HAVANA - In an unusually harsh outburst, Cuban leader Fidel Castro Friday called U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice ''mad'' and used a vulgar epithet to describe her special commission on the island's transition.

....

In recent years Castro has harshly insulted presidents Vicente Fox of Mexico, Fernando de la Rúa of Argentina and Jorge Batlle of Uruguay. Last week, a top aide to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula de Silva said Castro had called him a pendejo -- literally a pubic hair but also an epithet for a sniveling coward.

....

CIA doctors recently concluded Castro suffers from Parkinson's, The Miami Herald reported last month.

<end snip>

21. Old habits die hard
We've both seen that paper go from award-winning journalism to what it is today, a reflection of the entire media. Not even the NY Times was spared this transition.

And I'm afraid it will get worse for the Herald if they're bought out by Gannett or the Carlyle Group.

25. I go way back...
...I remember the Miami News.

When they cancelled Tropic, they reformatted the Sunday crossword and placed it in the Living section (along with Dave Barry). The print was so small and bleary, it was impossible to read the clues. The next week they reported that they got over 1000 angry letters from pissed crossword puzzle fans. LOL

28. I remember the Miami News
Edited on Sun Dec-25-05 01:48 AM by RagingInMiami
I remember the little black kids selling it on US 1 and Red Road. My dad would always buy a copy even though he would buy the Herald's first edition later that night.

Now the Miami News is kaput and the Herald no longer prints a first edition.

Thank God for the internet.

Dorticós Torrado, Osvaldo
1919–83, president of Cuba (1959–76). A prosperous lawyer, he participated in Fidel Castro’s revolutionary movement and was imprisoned (1958). He escaped and fled to Mexico, returning to Cuba after Castro’s triumph (1959). As minister of laws (1959) he helped to formulate Cuban policies. He was appointed president in 1959. Intelligent and competent, he wielded considerable influence. In 1976 the Cuban government was reorganized, and Castro assumed the title of president; Dorticós was named a member of the council of state.

Got any links that support your supposition?

If this thread is not about those things, why even bother to mention them? Unless your intention is to agitate and misinform.

In your OP, you do both.
