Big Brother is watching
Alameda Times Star

IT took 21 years longer than expected, but the future has finally arrived.
And we don't like it. Not one bit.

We are fighting a war with no end to create a peace with no defined victory.

We occupy a foreign land that doesn't want us, while at home our civil liberties are discounted.

We are told that it's better not to know what our government is doing in our name, for security purposes. Meanwhile, our government is becoming omnipresent, spying on us whenever it deems it necessary.

War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.

George Orwell was right after all.

1. Later in the article they suggest a great idea
"To that end, we're asking for your help: Mail us or drop off your tattered copies of "1984." When we get 537 of them, we'll send them to every member of the House of Representatives and Senate and to President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney."

Rather than send it to the local paper and let them forward it, we should all sent our copies to our own MOC directly with a copy of this op ed inserted under the front cover.

4. The Proles
Heavy physical work, the care of home and children,
petty quarrels with neighbours, films, football, beer,
and above all, gambling, filled up the horizon of their minds.

To keep them in control was not difficult.
A few agents of the Thought Police moved always among them,
spreading false rumours and marking down and eliminating
the few individuals who were judged capable of becoming dangerous.

8. And Napoleon and Sqealer sit in the White House
Strange thread. I remember new years eve in 1984, thinking it hadn't happened yet. Then you posted this and it jumped all over me, suddenly. It's here.

(Sadly, for me, I've been living it long before 1984. But it's official now.)

9. 1984 was occurring in 1984.
We are just now hearing about it and they got bolder. After Reagan took his bullet GHWB laid the groundwork culminating more than a Century of "hard work". The one thing they do not have is a good grasp of (yet) is the internet.
