Legacy?
Was half listening to Face the Nation and this word came again. Some say that if democracy and stability will, indeed, be brought to Iraq, that Bush will end up being one of the greatest, if not the greatest (depends on whose opinion, of course) president of the USA.

And I am thinking: tens of thousands of people died and are still dying so that he will have a legacy?

1. Democracy is worthless unless the people WANT it.
Did the Iraqi ask for help because they inherently desire it?

Or did we bestow it on them, saying it was for their own good?

Freedom comes from the soul. Nowhere else. You cannot "give" freedom the way you give a new toy to a child.

Besides, Saddam had WMDs he was intending to use against the US, which made him an imminent threat. That's what started the war, there was nary a peep about giving the people freedom. Not until much later.

2. Legacy of Death and Destruction.
So he invaded and bombed the Hell out of a Country that posed no threat to the U.S. just so he could have a legacy and be considered one of the greatest (p)residents ever? Yep, I'll just bet that was his reason, that and getting mega rich for him and his bidness buds. Nice! :grr:

3. The definition of "legacy" is not always positive, certainly
in the case of this administration, it is the most negative possible. They will all be remembered as a scourge upon the earth.

6. Colbert is probably mimicking Taranto of the WSJ
"best of the Web." I think that he first wrote this.

5. The talking heads are already trying to write the history books.
The gop has their entire identity wrapped up in this little man they call the president. If his legacy were to be presented factually and truthfully the entire party would be labeled as being as evil and ruthless as *.
