"Why Mommy is a Democrat" and the counter
For those of you who are not aware of this wonderful book, here's the link

http://littledemocrats.net/

5% of the proceeds go to political campaign support. Thanks to the DUer who originally posted the site.

I gave copier of this book to my two Democratic daughters Christmas Eve. One of them has four children, the other is sixteen. I didn't buy one for my Republican daughter. I was in somewhat of a quandary as to when to give these gifts, as I would do nothing to make my "other" child and her husband and children feel uncomfortable at a family gathering. Yes, they are kind enough that they bought me tickets to Dennis' fundraiser featuring Willie Nelson, for my birthday.

Fortunately, they called saying they were running somewhat late for the family gathering, and I presented my special presents. My oldest gathered the children around her and read the story. It was very moving, and appropriate for all religious leanings or non-leanings. My favorite page "Democrats make sure sick people are able to see the doctor, just like Mommy does."

So, in the spirit of being fair, I did a google on "Why Mommy is a Republican" and this is an interesting counter, which in my opinion makes the point for us as to the differences. I thought my fellow DUer's might enjoy. Just the name of the site is rather curious.

1. One Way You COULD Have Handled It
by all of them both "Liberals Under The Bed" and "Mommy Is a Democrat"

Forgive me for making assumptions about you & your family, but since one of your daughters is a Republican, my guess is you encouraged all of your kids to think for themselves and she just has a different view (although it could be rebellion or spousal influence). Anyway, I'd bet your two Democratic daughters are smart and could read "Liberals Under The Bed" but understand the flaws in its arguments. Then you could have said that we all needed to understand each other.

And I bet reading MIAD would help your Republican daughter understand you, although since she bought those fundraising tickets for you, I bet she already does. Or, at least she respects you. She sounds like a good person, even though she's a Republican.

If my assumptions are correct, I wish more Republicans were like her & we had more Democrats like you.

5. Yes, you are correct...
I saw "Liberal Under the Bed"when I goggled for "Why Mommy is a Republican." It would have been interesting to have both. My daughters are independent thinkers, although I think my middle child has been much influenced by her husband's family. We have always had only one political rule, although we have always voiced and lived liberal, in bringing up the children - Vote. With the changes happening so quickly in the last years, I wonder if we would do the same now with younger children now. I can't imagine reading "Why Mommy is a Democrat" in the past to young children. Now, I think it is pertinent. What a shame, but it's really nice to have this book available. You, by the way, are very perceptive!

4. conservababes looks like
Freeper-land lite and with fewer posters.
Still crazy though.
I'm still not getting where the hate that these people have in their hearts comes from.
Calvinist (born Jean Cauvin to a French middle class family) doctrine - the idea of "The Elect"? Perhaps that's where they get their sense of entitlement.
