"Rice not readying herself to be Pres but getting ready to be McCain's VP
from-- Steve Clemons

So, Rice is succeeding because the President is weaker and because she has no Condi Rice to shut her down. But she still has to worry about Cheney and his torture-obsessed thugs. For one, we still have the story that her own Ambassador to the United Nations, the recess-appointed John Bolton, leaked the news of her diplomatically fragile effort to offer Syria a "Libya-like" makeover track. Bolton sabotaged Rice -- and thus far has gotten away with it.

David Addington, Cheney's chief of staff, is no fan of Condi Rice's and has fought her efforts vigorously inside the White House. So far, Rice is winning -- but if Cheney's power resurges which may occur, Rice could be chewed up in a tug-of-war over foreign policy. To this writer, Cheney appears to have successfully tossed off the negatives from the Libby indictment.

The other risk that Rice has is that if she covers up and flacks for White House misdeeds on illegal wiretaps, detention centers, and torture -- these will eventually undermine her with an American public that won't tolerate institutionalized dishonesty in the Oval Office.

But as things look today, Rice may not be readying herself for President as much as getting ready to be John McCain's vice presidential running mate.

That ticket -- if the Republicans were smart enough to put it together -- would be tough for any Democrat, Hillary included, to beat.

1. That ticket
would be a Democratic NIGHTMARE. I am afraid the black vote might return to the GOP and there would be women who voted just for a woman.

Plus you have McCain seen as a war hero.

Not good. Somebody else, please? Like Romney.

2. I agree. I think it would be an unbeatable ticket.
I don't know a Dem who could run against mcCain and win.

22. True - Because most dems don't realize what mccain is really about
He's very conservaitve and has said so many times. He een said he's more conservative than most independants and dems realize.
He's strong anti-choice.

6. But all the 'necks who flocked to the pubs
because they hate the idea of women and/or blacks in office would sit it out. But if the Dems were really worried about it they could always nominate somebody like Obama or Conyers in the VP slot.

20. Not Really ...

I think you're assuming that black people are stupid. I think the brothers know an Uncle Tom (Auntie Twayla) Nigger when they see one.

Beyond that, Condi has made some pretty exasperatingly stupid statements in the name of carrying GW Bush's water. They make her look incompetent. Isn't it so strange that when the Bush administration needs to tell outrageous bald face lies, they send their black folks.

Finally, don't think that the folks down south are so "liberated". Condi still works for "the man", a white one. Their views of Condi would likely change a LOT if she started getting to "uppity".

Well at least that's what Mike Malloy would likely say. Because he thinks there is a snowball's chance in hell that all his cracker, redneck neighbors would vote for a black person for president.

3. Could the Republicans put that over on Southern Repubs?
After successfully using the racism of many Southern voters for years and after demonizing and smearing McCain could they turn it around and push that ticket?

as long as we can keep Hillary off the Dem ticket ( No, I am not bashing her, she is just too rightward of me). Picture that ticket against a Feingold/Clark ticket.

If I'd work for the dem campaign, I'd only need one ad: McCain embracing W and Condi reluctantly giving the name of the August 6 memo to the 911 commission. But that's just me. You stick with unbeatable - and in light of Diebold you may be right.

13. Indeed. Generate the buzz and bring it on home with Diebold.
Diebold is the only way this combo could be unbeatable and I'd love to see them attempt it.
If this is a trial balloon I say oh please fly it.

9. Disagree..
1) Too many racists in the South for this ticket.
2) She has very close ties to Bush.
3) African Americans are not stupid. They wouldn't vote for someone entirely because they are black (see number two). They hate Bush for what he did in NO; I can't see them forgiving her for defending him so much.
4) The Dems could easily beat McCain. Candidates need charisma and charm. IMO, McCain has neither. Put up someone like Barack Obama, and he could get the black vote, many independents, and the youth vote.
5) McCain wasn't that inspiring in 2000, and he also has close ties to Bush; even after Bush went after his family.
6) McCain is getting old. Someone like Feingold would look smarter, more youthful, and even more inspiring compared to McCain.
7) There are more people that are passionate about getting rid of Republicans than those that want to stay the course.
8) Republicans might be putting all of their eggs in one basket. See all of my above reasons for why McCain isn't necessarily the best candidate.
9) Condi is also a women. Just like my first point, many male Republicans would never vote for a female.
10) It doesn't matter to me, but these two people would look ridiculous next to each other. Is she taller than him?

21. McCain is being used ...

McCain is being strung along by the people in power. He is whoring himself under a promise for the RNC nomination. In the end, they will buttfuck him just like they did in 2000.

12. A lot depends on what happens in the meantime
McCain/Rice might look formidable right now, but if Bushco manage to ruin the country economically in the next two years (which could easily happen), they will have difficulty garnering many votes. Rice, because she is closely tied to the Administration and its failings, and McCain because he has basically bolstered whatever Bush wanted, the sole exception being the torture amendment. Besides all that, I think African Americans are smarter than just voting for skin color. They know a Tom when they see it. Couple that with the "good old boys" in the South who still believe in the slave system, and Condisleeza doesn't seem to be such a good prospect for VP.

any member of my community that likes rice. That she would win over a sizable segment of us is an idea that could have only come from a republican. So you are correct to discount that.

16. She is getting one hell of a media makeover..
This AP report was in today's Newsday
http://www.newsday.com/mynews/ny-usrail264565730dec26,0,1357626.story

"Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has become the most popular member of the Bush administration, even as Americans lose confidence in the president she serves and patience with the Iraq war she helped launch, according to a Pew Research survey."

Newsday doesn't usually print crap THIS stinky.

I encourage everyone to respond to this kind of claptrap with reminders of how bald her lies were at the 9/11 hearings.. and her shoe shopping during the drownding of New Orleans. "Warrior Princess" my Ass.

17. McCain will never win the Republican nomination
The rank and file Republicans hate him. He's totally a product of Washington. He's the Republicans version of Lieberman.

19. Rice is a liar. Why aren't Democrats screaming this from the rooftops?
Only by pointing out her continuous lies, will the Republicans have trouble having her run for anything.

24. Will she be wearing her "Katrina shoes" at the Repub National Convention?
McCain eating cake, and Condi shopping while her brothers and sisters are literally dying for help. Yeah, that's the ticket.
