Well color me a Satanist then...(long)
Edited on Mon Dec-26-05 06:19 PM by Maestro
This is in response to my Uncle's latest email saying that Democrats are the Devil's party.

Original Thread

Well color me a Satanist then. I really did not want to respond to this but I can’t help it. I see members of my family are still insisting on getting their news from News Max and Faux News and the like. So the Dems are the Devil’s party? Hum, okay, whatever. But here is some perspective.

That resolution does nothing. It’s pork, a waste of time. Why doesn’t the House actually try to solve some problems? Here are a few problems still related to that wonderful Katrina handling by Shrub’s good friend, Mr. Arabian Horse Guy.

I rather believe genuinely religious people when I want to talk about a supposed War on Christmas.
Thanks to Proud2BLib for the letter.

Christmas needs no protection in House
EMANUEL CLEAVER II Special to The Star

The leader of the congressional move to protect Christmas is a good and decent person whom I have come to respect and value as a faithful member of the weekly congressional Prayer Breakfast, which we both attend.

I clearly understand my colleague's immaculate motivation in sponsoring a House resolution "expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the symbols and traditions of Christmas should be protected." (The House passed it 401-22.)

I must disagree theologically with the case of need.

First, those who began the ridiculous public promotion of "holiday trees" instead of Christmas trees were unnecessarily throwing rocks at a hornet's net. Leave it alone. They are Christmas trees.

Likewise, it is appropriate during the Advent season for Christians to greet each other with a cheerful, "Merry Christmas." It is also appropriate to respect those whose faith traditions are different.

Make no mistake, however. Christmas is not under attack. The baseless fear that somehow so-called "political correctness" is a serious threat to Christmas is bad theology.

Christianity is a religion that harbors no fear. Faith is the first and foremost focus of this Abrahamic religion, and faith is the antithesis of fear.

If we really have faith in Christmas and its biblical meaning, then nothing earthly can threaten it, not even the greeting "Happy Holidays."

As best as I can determine from studying the writings on the Nativity in the Holy Writ of my religious tradition, the Lord did not seek an earthly vote before sending his son into the world and does not need a congressional vote to protect the symbols of His divinity.

Those of us in the House have no jurisdiction in this matter. The most productive and protective thing that Congress can do for Christmas is to leave it alone.

My vote of no on this resolution stands as my refusal to participate in this unintended but very real and shameful sham battle.

To be sure, the frantic flurry and tinseled tumult of the contemporary Christmas season has clouded its true meaning.

Nevertheless, it is here to stay. Time cannot erode it, skeptics cannot ignore it, and Congress can neither reject it nor protect it.

Understand this: If Congress has the power to protect Christmas, it stands to reason that is also has the power to dismiss it. I refuse to allot Congress that power, and for sure, God is not amused.

The true expression of Christmas is not a sign, song or symbol. It is a celebration of the believer's faith in the Incarnation.

In our multicultural society, we should remain mindful and respectful that Christmas is not a festival for all faiths. Jesus was demonstrably tolerant of other cultures, and therefore the celebration of his birth should provide comfort for his followers and cause them to do the same.

Finally, Congress must tame its instinct to legislate "culture-religious" courtesies.

It has neither the standing nor sophistication in the ecclesiastical.

Emanuel Cleaver II, a Democrat, represents Missouri's 5th Congressional District. He is the senior pastor of St. James United Methodist Church in Kansas City.

It’s sort of ironic that this Methodist pastor is a member of the Devil’s party. Oh well, he and I are condemned.

Heck this whole Presbyterian website that I frequent seems to be run by the Devil then because they are most assuredly Democrat. http://www.witherspoonsociety.org/index.html

As for the War on Christmas, there is none! It’s all made up by people who live in fear and watch that freakish programming on the Faux News Channel. http://mediamatters.org/items/200511210003

But O’Reilly is a fine journalist, right? What he says must be true. Y’know not like that horrible journalist, Dan Rather and all those LIEberals at CBS news. Let’s see. Wrong again. O’Reilly is a first class jerk. He seems to have a problem with women and falafels. http://tinyurl.com/6sx5r not to mention that is just a republican shill more like OxyRush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin and that vampiress, Ann Coulter.

He’s so stupid he can’t even report about the War on Christmas correctly.

O’Reilly apparently left out parts of this story that didn’t jibe with what Faux promotes, which is part and parcel for that propaganda channel or maybe O’Reilly really just is this ignorant. It’s really hard to say.

http://mediamatters.org/items/200512160007

Hey, while I am talking about Faux News, it seems that neocon dumbass Tony Snow is also a racist pig, but I guess that is okay for Faux News. http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Fox_News_host_tried_to_white_1223.html
http://tinyurl.com/98nvm

The Repukes have these upstanding individuals that are so very Christian-like and I am sure that Jesus is saving a special place for them.

Tom DeLay

http://www.slate.com/id/2116392/

Not to mention: DeLay indicted in Texas Finance Probe
http://tinyurl.com/bu4wy

And those honest republicans, who only are there in Washington to do good for us poor folk, rush to change rules so that DeLay doesn’t lose his post. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A54572-2004Nov16.html

Who else is one of Jesus’ chosen ones to rule in the good ole party? Oh yeah, that honest war hero, Duke Cunningham. Hey, but I give him credit. At least when he was caught, he admitted he did something wrong. Most repukes don’t do that.

http://tinyurl.com/b4aa2

And then there is that nasty Abramoff who seems ready to be a stool pigeon and implicate quite a few good Christian republicans in a nasty little imbroglio.

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Jack_Abramoff

What about that wonderful Bill Frist? http://tinyurl.com/dpueb That wasn't very Christian of him was it? But hey, he's forgiven because he is a republican, right?

And wait, then there is the Christian Coalition. They support Republicans and certainly would not do anything immoral like us horrible, multicultural Democrats, right?

Think again…

The oh so righteous Pat Robertson has railed against gambling while at the same time owning a racing horse that he states he bought for aesthetic reasons only. What a lie!

Then there is the time he pleaded for donors to help his organization buy planes to evacuate Rwandan evacuees. However, he mostly used the planes to transport equipment for his little known gold mine operations in Africa.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/wn_report/story/343712p-293471c.html
Here is more on his gold mine and how he escaped prosecution for obviously lying to donors. http://www.msmagazine.com/sept03/sizemore.asp

Oh and forget about the Separation of Church and State. According to Robertson, public schools should teach creationism. Okay fine, but since there is supposed to a separation of church and state, he’s willing for it to be known as Intelligent Design so that what is taught is simply that evolution might not be the answer that perhaps some higher being is in control. Wrong. He called for God to smite Dover, Pennsylvania. http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=1300761 Pat Robertson is probably the number one reason why there needs to be a separation of church and state!

Also, did you know that I am partly responsible for 9-11. According to Robertson and Lord Voldemort, I mean Jerry Falwell, I am. What freaks! http://www.beliefnet.com/story/87/story_8770_1.html

And then there is his little boy protégé, Ralph Reed, who ran the Christian Coalition for good ole Pat a while. He also lambasted those that gambled, but yet he accepted millions from his pro-casino lobbyist friend so he wouldn’t rail too hard against those evil casinos I suppose. Did he really mean what he said or is he just not a good Christian? By the way, Reed is also going to get pulled down in the Abramoff scandal. That is just funny! http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/1205/16metreed.html

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2005/5/19/172346/075

He even tried to deny the whole thing first. What a fine Christian.
http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=39448

And how can I forget our Great Leader. Now there is a fine Christian if I ever saw one. He surrounds himself with equally fine people. Allow me to make a list of the fine people with whom Shrub associates.

There is KKKarl Rove. Let’s all to say hello to America’s Joseph Goebbels. http://www.counterpunch.org/madsen1101.html

What, you don’t like that link? It’s too lefty. Okay, how is this? http://tinyurl.com/c5uew
If you don’t want read through those links, I will give you a synopsis. He is a political hack in politics only because of egomaniacal reasons willing to do whatever it takes including pathologically lying to get his candidate elected. But he is a good Christian, right?

What about the male gay prostitute that was allowed to sit in at White House briefings with absolutely no credentials whatsoever other than the fact he was probably servicing some high ranking officials there like Karl Rove or wild man, now UN rep. Bolton who is known to be a swinger. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Gannon BTW, all he did was lob softball questions. He did nothing except give Scotty McClellan some downtime. Meanwhile real reporters with difficult questions like Helen Thomas are relegated to the back row.
Here is more:

Caution when opening the links at this site. Nice Christian values there, uh? http://tinyurl.com/3o59k

But forget all those around Shrub. Shrub himself is a lying sack of s**t who thinks he is above the law.

Heck he just keeps lying and no one seems to care. Let’s talk about the war. There were never connections with Iraq and Al-Qaeda. There were never any WMD's and now we are seeing how poorly planned the invasion and the occupation were; more than 2000 soldiers dead for nothing, the US is not respected at all in the world any more, and the worst part is that Bush handed Bin Ladin exactly what he wanted. Bin Ladin warned the Arab world that the US was going to invade an Arab country. Now we have. We have taken an evil tyrant, who was not well liked to begin with in the Arab world and created sympathy for him. We have also created a breeding ground for terrorists for generations to come. Now Bush says we attacked because the intentions were there for Saddam to use the WMD's. Okay, so why aren't we in North Korea, why aren't we in Iran? They actually have them. Democrats do support the troops and we do all those in uniform. We just don't like the ones issuing orders. Oh and speaking of the ones issuing orders, check out this link. http://www.newamericancentury.org/ This place is just scary. It basically is a white paper on how the US will spread American culture and democracy everywhere, wanted or not. Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld all have contributed to this site. After reading there at this site, I am convinced that the war in Iraq was not about WMD's. Finally, and I will get off the military thing, but republicans clamor on and on about how Democrats can't lead a war yet the republican leaders and pundits are the ones that have NO military experience. They just like to talk the talk but not walk the walk. Look at this list.

Republicans vote and pander to an image, nothing more.

Now he is using wiretaps without court ordered approval even though he stated in this 2004 election speech a wiretap can only be obtained through a court order. So he is either a blathering idiot just reading what speech writers give him or he is a liar, which one? http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/04/20040420-2.html#
And this explains why he decided to do what he did. http://tinyurl.com/8dy25 I hope when a Democrat is in charge in the White House you are this willing to allow such breaches of the law when it comes to your privacy. But wait, before you start demonizing Clinton, as if he were some boogey monster, he DID not do the same sort of spying on Americans as Faux News and News Max suggest. http://mediamatters.org/items/200512240002

Even good judges are sick of him. This one is resigning. http://tinyurl.com/a5aqa

Since I mentioned Clinton, the topic of impeachment has just entered my mind. Let think this through again. Ken Star performed a witch hunt trying to nail both Clintons with some sort of shady dealings. He couldn’t find anything, zilch. But then he found out that Clinton had a consentual sexual affair with Monica Lewinsky. Boom! He really nailed that bastard Clinton. He even lied about that to a Grand Jury. Impeach him!!!!!! Really? How did that affect national security? It didn’t. Now let’s look at Shrub?

He did quite an honorable service during the Vietnam war, didn’t he? Going off and campaigning for a family friend thus not finishing his National Guard service was no big deal.

Oh wait, that is going too far back. Here is a more up-to-date list.

Let’s impeach Bush.
1) He misled Congress http://tinyurl.com/d49c4 and
2) He’s using unwarranted wiretaps to spy on Americans.

Man, I’m tired. If you have gotten this far, and I doubt you have, but if you have, I congratulate you. I am not sending this to start another family squabble but really, sometimes, the lack of perspective just irritates the hell out of me. I haven’t even gone into how the republican party slams my profession whenever it can. I could go on, but I wont.

The ursurping of Christianity by this administration is astounding. I have had it and really don’t even want to call myself a Christian if these bozos do. I truly believe that if Jesus were here, he’d kick their asses into oblivion.

Go on and keep blindly believing what you want, I’ll continue to question everything. My life experiences have taught me this. I really don’t believe anything I hear anymore, I suggest you start doing the same. Shrub and his cronies are the worst thing that ever happened to the United States.

12. You know...when you send it
think about adding somewhere the statement that you will love them no matter what they think of it. I personally think that when you are open like that it pays off and it keeps them from putting up a wall...getting their back up, as my Daddy used to say.

A spoonful of sugar and all that... I've been known to write to my freeper (and alcoholic) sister... "Barbara, I love you dearly and never want anything to come between us, but I have to tell you that in my opinion YOU ARE FREAKING NUTS!"

It actually works. She laughs rather than gets mad. And most important, it keeps the lines open between us and it keeps her mind open just a little bit and I'm really working it and I do believe I can get a Dem vote for us in 06.

15. I totally agree
however, this uncle has gone on tirades about how Hispanics are ruining these here states. Unfortunately, he does this right in front of my Hispanic wife and partly Hispanic kids. And to top it all off, I work with Hispanics on a daily basis and have dedicated myself to educating primarily Hispanics through bilingual education. His ignorance makes him so blind that he doesn't realize that he is lambasting my family and me when he does this.

BTW, I haven't had my beer yet. ;)

it really wasn't hard with all the great sources provided by DU members and just some good googling. :hi: For example, the list of repthuglican chickenhawks was a list posted here by someone. I just can't remember who. If anyone knows, please let me know so I can give credit to that person.
