Mississippi Blues
I try to keep up with the news on the south coast. My kids and grandson are still down there and I hope to go back soon. Any chance I get, I try to bring awareness of the needs of the folks down south.

More often than not, any thread on Katrina has someone who castigates the victims for being red-state voters. An assumption that irritates me to no end.

The Sun-Herald is the local newspaper for most of the MIssissippi gulf coast. It's my source for local news. They have an online discussion board that has been very active since the storm and has helped keep people together.

There are four forums, Hurricane Katrina, Renewal, Sun-Herald News, and Sun-Herald Sports.

http://forums.sunherald.com/dir-app/nav/forumdirectory.aspx?webtag=kr-sunheraldz&byName=y

If you are interested, scan some of the threads on Katrina and Renewal to get an idea of whats needed and what's going on.

Please also check out the Sun-Herald News forum to find some very interesting threads with a most liberal flavor.

http://forums.sunherald.com/kr-biloxigenera/start

These are your brothers and sisters in the south. Please do not write them off.

12. It's going good.
Thanks for asking. How is your family?

You know what we need to do, we need to do a thread for GD & the Hurricane forum that has organizations that are sending volunteers to the coast. I know that intheflow and usedtobesick are coming next year.

Maybe we can find names of different groups and list it in case others want to volunteer.

Just thinking here.

again, thanks for this thread.

13. I'm up for it
My kids had a good Christmas and that's what I'd hoped for.

I am looking for some way to do something and since I plan to go down there, it would be good to hook up with good people.

15. There have been several DUers asking what groups to contact.
I really don't know.

I am sure there are churches sending volunteers to Hancock, Harrison and Jackson county.

In a thread in the SunHerald forum this group was referenced http://www.minnesotahelpers.org/

Maybe we can put together a list. I will look around the area to see if I can find the groups helping in Biloxi. I'll pmail RevCheesey to ask if she knows of a methodist group cooridinating volunteers for the area.

I'm glad your kids had a good Christmas, I hope you did too. :loveya:

21. In Alabama....
We don't condemn red states we convert them. Katrina victims are still welcome, is one thing I'm proud to report from my little red state of confusion. KICK! to a fellow southerner, even though LSU beat us this year.
