10 Worst Quotes from DU/2005 according to Freepers
Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 01:17 AM by stevietheman
http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/1545480/posts

I was happy that a quote from me came in at #8:

stevietheman: "Brilliant. I've often thought myself that without a peaceful remedy, and soon, we may just be months away from Revolution in America.

That's how sinister these people in stranglehold of our government are. They may not receive it, but they deserve a French-style Revolution, with actual heads rolling.

And we have to be clear who these reich-wing creeps get their power from: Oligarchs and big corporate CEOs from particular industries.

If we are to fight the most wicked of today's politicians, we must also fight the true source behind the wickedness, the resources that fuel and fund the wickedness. These politicians are merely superficial veneers to the truly problematic entities. If only they are removed, then those problematic entities find some sneaky way to come back at a later time. They always do.

So when we "take them down", *this time* we need to pull out the roots and soak the ground with permanent plant killer.

The true enemy is corporatism."

The response was predictable. They translated "revolution" to 19th century-style bloody civil war, as if the country were cleanly divided enough for such a conflict to take place (the nation is more "purple" than "red" vs. "blue"). And of course, they continue to buy into the urban legend that they on the extreme right have/use guns and liberals (and the moderates and independents who now openly oppose Bush) don't. A revolution can take many forms, through major electoral changes, through systemic legal indictments/convictions, through widespread unrest and disruptions of many sorts, through violence against politicians (although I don't condone that), etc. That they only imagine the sort of conflict that sprang up in the 1860's is rather telling.

Another painful truth that they must forget is that the liberal sides won both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Liberals with guns were called patriots and unionists for these respective conflicts. We liberals are smarter and we fight to win because our convictions are morally sound, while the extreme right fights to defend their "honor" with emotions that mask bigotry, greed and various vile political positions that cannot be rationally defended. We liberals have won the long war for the hearts and souls in this country, and while we've been in a temporary slump, we always come back because we stand for what this country is really about: Progress for all. True freedom. Democracy.

They stood for slavery of one sort at an earlier time. And they stand for newer kinds of economic slavery today. If they want to fight for their corporate slavemasters and attempt to get the American people excited for that "cause", I do believe they're in for a rude awakening. The American people in general are sick of corporate power and its control over our governance. If liberals take confident stands against corporatism, then any "revolution" will have the few on the extreme right actually willing to utilize their purported arms caches having to face the rest of us.

I DO LIKE THAT FIGHT. And I do believe it's another we liberals can win, and win handily at that.

On edit: Following is their top 10, excluding the one they posted from me:

10) patricia92243: "Would the Republicans have Dean "rubbed out" if they perceive him as a real threat - by bringing the Democratic Party back to being in real competition to them? I'm convinced that is what happened to JFK - he was "terminated" so there would not be a Kennedy dynasty. In my opinion, the big-wigs in the Republican party are really, seriously dangerous. I worry about our guy."

9) AntiCoup2K4: "And yet they were both known to be in Dallas. Tricky Dick was at a Pepsi board meeting. Poppy can't account for his whereabouts. The picture of the figure in the doorway of the book depository could be him, but it's not conclusive. Though it's highly unlikely that Poppy was one of the shooters, he was probably the "supervisor" on that particular CIA mission, as he was on the Bay of Pigs operation.

D@mn shame that the only two Bush operations that did NOT fail were the assassination of JFK and the establishment of the Bin Laden led mujahadeen which later became "Al Qaeda"."

8) See above.

7) Cronus Protagonist: "Will Karl Rove have to be suicided?

Once the election fraud comes out and it's clear Roves fingerprints are all over it, and that it leads all the way to Bush's desk, Bush's best defense will be a Rove "suicide" - remember the old maxim in politics - dead men tell no tales.

If left alive, Rove would have too many tales to tell."

6) mike_c: "no pride-- we should be ashamed of what they've (the troops in Iraq have) done...in our names, not proud of them. They've served as thugs and enforcers for a corrupt foreign policy. They've helped shatter a country already brought to it's knees by ten years of draconian sanctions and an invasion premised upon bald-faced lies. The've participated in a war of aggression that mocks international law. They've murdered untold numbers of innocent civilians. Their occupation has created an insurgency that threatens to consume Iraq in civil war, and causes the deaths of additional innocents. They have destroyed homes and lives for no good purpose whatsoever.

I am deeply ashamed of them. There is nothing noble about what they've done in Iraq. They have not served or defended us-- they served fascism.

To those who inevitably argue that they had no choice but to commit these crimes, consider that this circumstance neither exonerates them under law, nor makes their actions admirable. Only blind alliegence-- the act of being a "good German"-- can raise pride in what they've done in Iraq."

5) Alexodin: "I was at the boiling point a long time ago. Back in January I prepared a safe room to hide GLBT people and Muslims and anybody else that needed to flee the fascism. I asked my relatives to seriously consider sending those not able to fight out of the country, elderly and young mothers. I was preparing. Then Schiavo hit and W**’s tumble began. I feel much better now but suspect that this bunch will not go peacefully and legally when their time comes.

I continue to employ passive resistance against them. I sense that civil unrest could develop around the 06 elections. This country is a tinder box of discontent and angst and the Repukes may want to incite violence so that they can declare martial law. I am watching for an “in your face move” such as a pardon or something more abhorrent. I stand with you, you do not stand alone. I have many relatives buried in Arlington. This is my country. I will defend the Constitution with my life if I must."

4) KzooDem: (William Rehnquist) going to be buried in Arlington Cemetery. I know where his grave is. I was visiting Arlington a couple years ago on a biz trip there. While walking among the headstones, I came across Rhenquist's, as his wife died in the 90's and was already buried there.

I actually marked it on a map so when I return someday I could go spit on his grave"

3) seabeyond: "i refuse kentuck i just refuse. why do you think the (American) people are so dumb because they have been being dumb down consistantly alst decade especially during bush time. i refuse and tell my children i refuse to allow them to be dumb down. they had better use their brain to follow me. i have high expectation,. i will not feed into the dumbing down of america. i tell my friends, exactly i expect more out of them, i especially tell my older nieces and nephews and their friends, i will not play their dumb down game

no no no"

2) Lerkfish: "you see the dots, you're just not connecting them. If Zarqawi's actions benefits Bush, who do you think is directing him? if there even is a Zarqawi"

1) S1 on a helicopter with 9 American Blackwater employees in it being shot down in Iraq: Good. F*ck em. Live by the sword, go down in a Russian helo by the missile. Perhaps the rest of Blackwater will get slaughtered too, good riddance to bad sh*t.

1. I find that they even have such a thread pathetic
They're obsessing over what we, who have little political prominence, say while casting a blind eye to those who lie through their teeth in office!

3. 1. Dear me, they pay us so much attention.
2. They don't pay that much attention if that's the "worst" they could come up with.

And I thought that marking Rehnquist's grave on a map for a return spitting showed good planning and foresight. I like to believe, when they toss him into his cell in hell, he notices four empty sets of chains.

Mainly, it's just a bunch of childish name-calling and the verbal brandishing of firearms. It's as much silly as it is frightening.

All I did in the quoted passage was tell the truth about Richard Nixon's and Poppy Bush's whereabouts on 11/22/63. In my humble opinion, I've said many things far more worthy of Freeper "recognition" than this.

Hint to Freeps - read the 9-11 threads for next year's ceremony

8. Liberals don't have guns an urban legend? Funny, I thought it was true
Given the elements here who advocate total abolition of the ability to purchase or own a firearm. The only individuals who would be allowed to carry weapons are those who serve the government, and at this point in US history, the government is not necessarily by the people, for the people, and of the people anymore. I wonder now if it ever was.

13. I thought liberals wanted to keep guns out of the "wrong hands"...
not necessarily their own law-abiding ones. Yes, some don't like to keep them around, but I would bet that many conservatives also don't keep firearms around. I really don't think there's much of a difference in actual gun ownership between the two sides.

Pathetic lamers! That really is what is 'wrong' with them....they don't have any depth at all to what they do or think. All emotion and no logic or historic content whatsoever.

18. Small point ...
I don't mean to detract from an otherwise excellent observation, but we'd do well to take note of these sorts of things if the struggle against this backward type of thinking is to maintain consistency.

Being a unionist did not necessarily make one a "liberal" or progressive. In fact, the more liberal minds prior to the war tended to be something less than unionists in that some were willing to let the South go if it meant cleansing the nation of the stain of slavery. Indeed unionism in its earliest manifestations was imbued with an inherent conservatism since it sought mainly to maintain the status quo. Some historians have eloquently argued, among them George Frederickson in _The Inner Civil War_, that Northern conservatism fueld the majority of the Union war effort in the early to mid stages while others have traced the evolution of the Republican Party we have today from its more conservative faction that gained prominence during the Civil War and, after Reconstruction, in the latter part of the 19th century. Lincoln and his administration were often at odds with the so-called Radical Republicans, the latter being the true progressives, people like Thaddeus Stevens, Benjamin Wade, and Charles Sumner, and it is at least arguable whether the progressive faction of the Republican Party would have gained the temporary power it did had Lincoln, a more conservative mind by comparison, not been killed.

So, certainly the liberal mindset should be granted the favor of credit for the great advances made in our society after the Civil War and for playing a huge part during it in ensuring that the cause was not one of mere unionism. Many were courageous warriors who bled and died for that greater cause and achieved great honor. Some enlisted in the military who could have purchased their way out or not been called at all simply because they knew the what the greater cause was and desired to put actions behind their rhetoric. They were great men, and women I might add who lit a fire under the cause of not just racial but gender equality as well, and we should remember who they were specifically.

20. It's the simpleton's mass
They never question their own answers. They never answer their own questions. They never see themselves in context. They're given the genuflect of "conspiracy theory" to combat anyone outlining evidence for criminal conspiracies and they repeat the litany given them for all other situations.

They like their politics as they like their religion - simple-minded, black and white, and utterly lacking in anything but surface meaning.

not to give them any bandwidth or other time or attention; they simply don't merit it.

I will say, though, that one of their picks makes a point that does not reflect well on this site or Democrats. It might behoove us, when decrying the dumbing down of America, to use grammar, spelling, and punctuation that doesn't illustrate the point so clearly.

Just this public school teacher's pov, who doesn't "dumb down" the English language for her students.
