GOP Investigated Clinton’s Cat-But Only Plans ‘Oversight’ on Bush’s Spying
GOP Investigated Pres. Clinton’s Cat But Only Plans ‘Oversight’ on Pres. Bush’s Admitted Illegal Spying

What do you call a political party that thinks postage for a Presidential cat's fan club requires a full-on Congressional investigation, but a President who admits on national television to breaking Federal law, repeatedly, only merits some committee "oversight," and spotty oversight at that?

Republicans

Compare and contrast:

1995: Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN), then chair of the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee, investigated whether taxpayers were footing the cost of stationery and postage for the fan club dedicated to President Clinton’s cat, Socks. (They were not - and it turns out Barbara Bush’s dog Millie had a fan club too.)

2005: Two weeks ago, President Bush admitted he willfully flouted a law that requires him to get warrants before wiretapping U.S. citizens. His justification for ignoring the law appears to be nobless oblige. In reaction, Republicans in charge of the Senate Judiciary Committee announced on Friday that they are planning “oversight” hearings into the matter.

3. Congress and the repugs also spent 7 years and 70 million on ....
...... Monica, a blow job, and a money loosing land deal (white water) but they spent less then 5 million (?)
and 18 months on 9 - 11.

It is time we bring these facts out front and center in 06 and rub people's noses in them. The
repugs (not all of them) are out of control and they see power and money as the only goals
for their party. The religious angle, values, fighting terrorism, and love of the troops is just
window dressing.

We get a clean vote and "they" will be out on their asses and we can start having some real
investigations into what those crooks have been up to.

BTW anybody seen bin Laden?

5. Well, you know, Socks was a subversive...
...radical feline who could have toppled the government at any time. :P Seriously, the Repukes had nothing better to do with their time and our resources. We need to call together all of the remaining Watergate prosecutors (are there any still around?) and sic 'em on W. Bush's illegal spying is MUCH BIGGER than Watergate, yet Congress is doing next to nothing about it.

10. LOL! Both of my dogs think cats are subversives too...
but they're not RW dogs. No wingnut dogs in my house!!!! :P

Thanks for the clarification. That must be why one of our neighborhood cats tortures our next-door neighbor (BIG Repuke). The cat always hangs out in his perfectly-manicured yard and sleeps on his porch. It drives the guy crazy!

13. heres how it works
the press in your country is seen as state media

infact the media have different masters, and at any point have enough dirt they can smear on any candidate who does not fall into line with them and their agenda

therefore your american government is at the whim of the press

now, can anyone think what organisation/religion/country all the owners of your press have in common?

answers on a postcard please

p.s. who's bidding does america seem to be doing right now?

26. Amusing... but not quite that simple.
Many have dirt on others, press, politicians, business leaders. There are those, super-rich, powerful, that have much more dirt and strings to pull (Coors, Scaife, etc.). I suspect a number of politicians are compromised with black-mailable material that is career, and potentially life destroying. Hence, some of the odd responses and votes from those who should be better.

As far as media, it is simply another tool of exposure, of placing a message, but the media is not all powerful. It is a tool to others.

The example I use is it is akin to a herd of hyenas feating on the downed bull. When the carcass is consumed (America) then they will start turning on each other.

I see many greedy, useless fucks (politicians, business "leaders", spawn of well-to-do (e.g. Bush) simply trying to get while the getting is good, then wall themselves off and ride out the coming storm in their gated little feudal estates. I suspect the highest walls and strongest gates will not be enough to protect all their sorry asses. Then, the real fun will begin! This century is going to be pivotal in human history--make of break time!

15. are you sure Dan Burton wasn't merely
attempting to divert attention away from his "forgetting" he had an illegitimate child? Yes, Mr. Family Values ("Clinton is a scumbag") Burton "forgot" he fathered a child out of wedlock.
So, maybe diverting attention onto a cat was a way to slide out from under that bothersome paternity problem.
