Ordinarily, I wouldn't comment on a movie in GD, but they did try to make it a little political.
Not the greatest movie ever made - you won't miss a whole lot if you wait for the DVD, but I had read the Jim Carrey wanted to make a point about crooks like Ken Lay and I think he did an okay job. It was fairly subtle and, given the reaction from the audience (the theater was only about 1/4 full) I'd say my niece and I were about the only ones who got some of it.
The movie takes place in 2000 and every so ofter there is a Gore/Lieberman sign in the background which I though was a nice touch. There is one scene where Bush is babbling on TV in the background, talking about the economy and something about not wanting just a few people to do well.
Alec Baldwin plays the Key Lay-like CEO who makes off with millions right before the company tanks. There is one scene where he's telling the news people that the crash of the company has been hard on him, why he had to "sell off my home in Jackson Hole - no, it was the one on Martha's Vineyard". In another scene, he's being followed by reporters while he's out hunting. He speaks seriously to reporters about the company's crash then says to them "Watch me make this shot" and turns to shoot at a bird. My niece and I both blurted out at the same time, "Just like Bush in Farenheit 911".....No reaction from the rest of the audience.
When the movie ends and the credits start to roll, the first thing that comes up is "Special thanks to" and then a list of Enron, Worldcom and Tyco executives. A nice touch I thought.
Pretty much my niece and I were the only ones who reacted with guffaws or groans at any of the political stuff - I'd give the producers an A for effort, but they must not have realized that sometimes you have to hit the public on their heads to make them get the point.
