Dowd: Vice Axes That 70's Show

Vice Axes That 70's Show
by Maureen Dowd

We start the new year with the same old fear: Dick Cheney.

The vice president, who believes in unwarranted, unlimited snooping, is so pathologically secretive that if you use Google Earth's database to see his official residence, the view is scrambled and obscured. You can view satellite photos of the White House, the Pentagon and the Capitol - but not of the Lord of the Underworld's lair.

Vice is literally a shadow president. He's obsessive about privacy - but, unfortunately, only his own.

(snip)

Consider this: when Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, supported by President Ford, pushed a plan to have the government help develop alternative sources of energy and reduce our dependence on oil and Saudi Arabia, guess who helped scotch it?

Dick Cheney. Then and now, the man is a menace.

1. Cheney?
Everyone is considering impeachment! Does anyone consider America with Karl Rove and Dick Cheney at the helm?

2. There is zero chance
that Cheney would come to be president if Bush were to leave office.

7. Several reasons.
The first is that a congressional investigation into the executive office's violations of the FISA and related spying scandals will lead first to VP Cheney's office. Add to this the growing sense that the Plame scandal is getting closer to Cheney, and it becomes more likely that he will be gone before Bush is seriously considered for a national sacrifice. A House investigation would more likely lead to Cheney's exit being a compromise, with a possible censure of Bush's violating the law.

4. If it went that far and * were out, I think Cheney would go down with him.
Of course, that would still leave too many of the same people in power.

3. Where does this man get his arrogance? I really don't understand
Who the hell does he think he is. He was an obscure congressman from Montana (or somewhere) and just took over the effin country? Seriously, how did this happen. From whence flows this extreme arrogance; it's not based on anything.

6. He's used to getting a lot of deference at his OTHER job
(Lord of the Underworld).
