Credit the Iraqis
The leadership of Iraq seems quite liberal for the Middle East. The elections were fair; the majority is working hard to reach out to the minority; they've been open about torture and abuse in their prisons; and they have a free press. This is why I hope the new Iraq succeeds (though I think the odds of that are not good).

If the new Iraq succeeds, and US continues on its current path, maybe someday the the Iraqis will invade us to save us from a government that engages in torture and kidnapping, spies on its people, discriminates against minorities, holds corrupt elections, and lies to its people and the world. When that happens, the streets will be lined with Americans waving Iraqi flags.

1. what about the 80 (out of 270) reps who claim they were rigged?

2. what you are saying seems to be contradictive to ground in iraq
the majority in military and police are shiite. i understand they are gathering sunni, and have been doing this for a while, killing them and imprisoning them. so i am confused in you grace you give to the winning party, reaching out to sunni. on the surface. but if your family watches your father being shot because he is sunnie, or a brother being imprisoned, how...... is that going to make one comfortable in holding hands with this leadership/

that is just one small example

and the kurds, the 3rd party has stated they are willing to turn on shiite army, just waiting for the word. so they can create their own country

it just seems your post is void of reality, and not quite getting it.

would it be cool for all tho be good in iraq, yes. but i think youa re giving something to the shiites they havent earned

4. I think the leadership is trying
As far as their constitution goes and as far as their behavior goes, I think there are some real liberal undercurrent in the Iraqi government. The problem for them is that I think their power is only temporary, and sooner or later military and religious leaders will assert their power. Is Iraq a mess? Yes. I doubt if the leaders have any real authority over 90% of the country, but they seem to be trying to create something that's pretty good.

3. You are being sarcastic right?????
The religious right in Iraq had a big win in the "election". They are aligned with Iran. There is nothing liberal about them. The Sunnis got screwed and will fight. The Kurds want a separate country and will fight when the time is right.

Iraq is a disaster waiting to explode in mega violence.

5. I am talking only about the leadership ...
... not about the rest of Iraq.
