Biden gives low marks to Dem hopefuls – Barbara Bush claims vindication
By KEN GUGGENHEIM
The Associated Press
10/22/2003, 10:18 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) — The top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said Wednesday that none of the Democratic presidential candidates has expressed a coherent foreign policy although it's early in the campaign.

Sen. Joseph Biden, who once flirted with the idea of seeking the party's nomination, said the candidates have to "demonstrate that they have a foreign policy, a security policy, that is coherent and is grown up, that we can handle the bad things out there in the world."

<snip>

Biden said he wants to help shape Democratic foreign policy, but he said, "what I don't want to do is flyspeck their (the candidates') primary strategy."

He added: "I mean I'm a guy that didn't make it to Iowa, so how the hell do I know."

1. Biden should fess up- he's a Republican.
Gee, Joe, for someone who supported an illegal oil war based on lies you sure are critical of the foriegn policy ideas of the Dems running to oust Bush "although it's early in the campaign"... Who's side are you on anyway?

today of the "patriot act". He is a perfect example of why I'm rapidly questioning most of these "Democrats", are they for real?

12. Biden IS NOT A REPUBLICAN
Jeez, did you read the whole article... NO OF COURSE NOT.

So many DU'ers make me want to scream. Ever ready to bash Democrats. Taking comments out of context.

And GOD FORBID if a Democrat is EVER diplomatic and starts a speech by using "faint praise" before launching into scathing criticism...

Which is what Biden usually does...

But too many DU'ers paste the praise and conveniently snip out the parts where the Democrat's point is being made.

praise when describing our regime's foreign policy. How about his comments today re: the "patriot act". Scream if you have to, I just about did when I read this asshole's comments today.

25. I've Seen Huge Threads Attacking Biden
For one or two sentences in the beginning of some speech he made where he "praises" Junior and Co. and meanwhile....

a thread that lists the rest of that same speech where he goes on to dissect them sinks like a stone.

Why is that, I wonder?

Why does this article say Biden Gives Dems Low Marks when that is NOT what he ACTUALLY DID?

20. Biden lost me way before this...
I have heard Biden proclaim the war was okay and justified on multiple interviews. That's where I cut him off. He supported that war, no excuse for that. If I am in the Democratic wing of the Democratic party, Biden is in the Republican wing.

42. He was at strom's funeral
Because Strom requested he do the eulogy in his will, sure he may have "made a statement" by refusing, but that statement would largely be criticized as not following the wish's of a dying man, making him an ineffectie lawmaker.

11. Nice Hatchet Job, Pruner
Too bad you left out the part where Biden GOES ON TO SAY

Biden:

"If it's only 'I voted to go in (to Iraq)' or 'I thought we should've gone in, but now we shouldn't spend any money there,' that is not a particularly coherent policy. And I think it will maybe work well in the primary, but I don't think it works very well in the general (election)," the Delaware lawmaker told reporters."

Biden said it is early in the campaign and there isn't a forum that would allow the candidates to present a complete foreign policy. He said if he were a candidate, "I would just want to make sure I was being consistent.""

Or does every freaking Democrat have to engage in a Smackdown just to make a few freaks on DU happy?

Biden didn't badmouth any Democrats here.... and the irony is some of the people here support Dean who has been disrespecting those very Democrats in Washington who fight to get money to small time Governors like him!

The inability of so many DU'ers to understand even the BASICS of diplomacy and strategy is really sad.

Biden is NOT my favorite but he is NOT A REPUBLICAN and does a pretty decent job!

Not even a little bit.

Mind you, I'm not the greatest Biden fan.

BUT, I'm sick of watching as Democrats get into circular firing squads goaded on by the mediawhores.

The PAPER came up with the title "Biden Gives Dems Low Grades"
And it misrepresents what he ACTUALLY said!

And many DU'ers seem totally eager and primed to jump on the bash the Democrat who isn't "Smacking Down Junior 24 Hours A Day".

There's a HUGE difference between the GOAL of smacking down the Neo cons and the Diplomatic Strategy needed to make that a Reality.

40. And this is exactly what I'm trying to say...
Hell, I don't even like Joe Biden, but this frenzy to castrate any Democrat who isn't 100% perfect scares the shit out of me. If we get rid of Biden, Lieberman, Hollings, Bayh, Feinstein, Nelson (ND), Nelson (FL), Daschle, Baucus and Bingaman (all of who I've heard called DINOS on DU). That puts us down to 38 out of 100. Who else should we cast out in our march towards purity?

23. Keep in mind...
... that Biden himself gave the press the soundbite they'd use.

Alternatively, Biden could have said, "I'm looking forward to the ways in which all the candidates develop their foreign policy plans."

And, then, shut his mouth. However, he did not do that.

Cheers.

41. I'll admit it, I am annoyed by him
but having just checked his record at vote-smart.org , I wouldn't say he's a DINO, but he's sort of Liebermanish, which means not taking a very confrontational approach, yet voting against much of the domestic Bush agenda (though his vote yesterday was dissapointing), but still giving Bush too much of what he wants in terms of foreign policy.

He seems like such a cocky bastard...To give him some credit though, he did mention how even if Kerry of one of the democratic candidates were to have made a great foreign policy speech, the media wouldn't give enough coverage for it. Still, in this case criticism of democratic candidates is idiotic. He should have kept his mouth shut.
