Baqubah, Oct 23 - A US military convoy was ambushed Thursday in a village near Baqubah, northeast of Baghdad, witnesses said.

A humvee was set ablaze by a bomb around 9:30 am (0630 GMT), leaving a huge crater in the ground, at Al-Saada, about 60 kilometres (nearly 40 miles) from the capital, witness Uday Abdul Satab said.

US soldiers searched the area for the perpetrators for 30 minutes after the attack, Satab said.

Some reporters also saw the vehicle aflame, but there were no immediate indications about any casualties.

A US convoy came under attack late Wednesday in the same village, witnesses said.

Sina Mohammed and Ahmed Nasser said they saw two vehicles on fire late Wednesday, adding they suspected it was a rocket-propelled grenade attack.
