Arnold will NOT move to Sacramento
Instead he is going to live in San Bernadeno and travel by his private jet to the capitol when he needs to.

I hope the state legislature requires that he live in the same city as the rest of the government. What next, Bush besides to live in Crawford? Gimma break. Don't want the job, resign.

you would not expect the Gropinator to live there would you. Beside Pete Wilson already to move in.

Davis lives part time here in West Hollywood and also has a place in Sacramento.

This really isn't news.

Anyhow, I don't know how he is going to do it. He is going to have to stay there for the legislative session.

I would rather have him grope the members of the state legislature instead. Some of them need groping. Particularly the old fat balding Republican men.

came in second place in the election. So, I don't think CA'ians really wanted him as much as should have been required to win the election.

6. San Bernadino is majority Republican
that is why he wants to stay there. Just like Bush, Arnold will spend his time being Govinator in a bubble. The same day Bush came out to visit Arnold and give his little pony show in San Bernadino a soldier from San Bernadino died in Iraq.... I pointed this out to my ignorant/Arnold voting ex-step father and he said "Oh". There was no mention of this by Arnold or Bush.

35. I grew up in San Bernardino and couldn't wait to leave
when I finished high school. I never went back. One of my teachers called it a little corner of purgatory. It gets really hot too and the smog is worse than LA. I'm sure Maria is going to love it, or maybe, she'll go crazy like my mother did at times. It will be interesting to see how two of the glitterati, who are accustomed to the trendy jet set of the westside of LA, survive in the stifling conservative social set of good ole SB. They use liberals for target practice there and Arnold is liberal in every way except with money.

most elected officials actually move into the
same town as the where legislature is....especially if
it runs the 5th largest economy in the world.

San Bernadino? Do you guys know where that is...
it's in Southern California..in the boondocks...
a smog filled conservative farm area...

I still think this is a rumor on the Onion.

46. Yea, I know where it is, I live right below it in Riverside County
I used to be Farm and Wine country, now a lot of the western part is burbs. I have live out here 18 years and 26 before behind the Orange Curtain (City of Orange, Orange County,Ca.). This whole LA basin was all once dried up worthless desert, now some parts are even worse.

Song: A Horse With No Name
Artist: America
On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings

The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And a sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound

{Refrain}
I been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert your can remember your name
Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
(la la la...)

After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a riverbed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead

You see...
{Refrain}

After nine days I let the horse run free
Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with its life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love

You see, ...
(Refrain)

Arnie is going to live nowhere NEAR Sacramento. He is only going to fly in 'when needed'.

So I guess California government isn't quite the trainwreck he depicted as he only needs to be a partly present Governor.

Oh - he needs to be on the coast to assist with 12 months of fundraising for W. Priorities, ya know...

Not to defend Gov. Grabass, but...

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/politics/recall/20030809-2224-ca-davisrecall.html

Los Angeles porn actress Mary "Mary Carey" Cook, wearing a low-cut black dress, said she would install a Webcam in the governor's mansion.

The longtime governor's mansion in Sacramento was last used in 1967 by Ronald Reagan. It is now a museum. (Gov. Gray) Davis lives in a rented house in a suburb.

30. Huh?
You must not have spent much time in Sac. I used to work for several different state departments in Sacramento (including the California EPA, where I met Davis), and let me tell you that, except for budget time, the "hours of business" are 11AM-3PM Monday through Thursday. Outside of those hours everybody important is too busy either attending ceremonies, making speeches, meeting with the busloads of tourist schoolchildren that overrun the capitol building every weekday, playing golf, or jetting off to some corner of the state to meet with some constiutent group. As far as night work goes, the capitol building is typically locked up tight and empty by 6:30pm every day. With only rare exception, our legislators NEVER work nights or weekends (budget time being the obvious exception).

The simple fact is, no California governor has lived full time in Sacramento since Jerry Brown sold the governors mansion in 1975 (there IS an effort to build a new one and change this, by the way). Davis spent most of his time in LA, and the other governors did much the same...staying in their hometowns most of the time and maintaining a second residence in the Sacramento area when it's needed. They either rent their own, or they can use the modest 4 bedroom house that the state provides free of charge (literally, and ordinary house in an ordinary neighborhood).

This is a non issue.

42. Wrong!!!
I worked for CAL EPA, the legislature, and other agencies. If you are involved in policy, then you work late. I also met with other folks for dinner and drinks and formed needed friendships and connections. So when we were arguing a bill, I could get through to them and knew what their concerns were. I also never, repeat never, did not work a full day. I always knew I could reach the influential folks early morning or at night. Either at home or at work. I don't know your position or what you did, but I know many in the Capital and you are wrong. There is a cadre of hard working folks who are very influential.

43. Late days?
Sorry, I don't buy it. I worked every day from 7AM to 6:30PM as a liason between the third party contractors and the CalEPA, CalDGS, CalDMV, and a few other agencies during the big IT overhaul in '99. I was usually one of the first in the buildings, and nearly ALWAYS the last one out...I even was chided by superiors multiple times because I was "overworking" myself. When we'd run into something that required input from some policy wonk, the response was more often than not "sorry, he's playing golf right now", "sorry, he's out of town", "sorry, he's with a tour group right now", "sorry, he's at lunch right now (at 10 am)". I rarely heard "he's in a meeting", "he's in session" or anything like that.

I was so fed up with the mismanagement and lack of work ethic in Sacramento that I finally quit in 2000, and now have very little respect for ANYBODY working there. I'm sure there are a few good people working to improve the state, but most of the people I met seemed to be more interested in self-preservation or self-gratification than in managing and improving the actual condition of our state.

52. Well, go to Dept. of Finance right now
(11 pm on a Friday night) and I would bet that folks are working. They are crunching the new economic numbers and trying to estimate tax revenues. It's time for Departments to put in their preliminary budget proposals. Show up tomorrow and folks are working. Hit the Legislature in a few weeks and I would bet folks are working round the clock. Go to the offices of lobbyists and they are working. You lived in a different Sacramento than I lived in.

If he chooses to live hundreds of miles away from his office, and commutes up to Sacramento then we need to make sure that:

a) He pays the upkeep himself

b) He re-registers that plane to include licensing in California (if it were a car, it would be illegal to have that vehicle not
registered with California tags after 10 days of declaring California your permanent residence). Currently it is registered in Nevada.

A co-worker of mine spent a few months in San Berdoo, and it was all he could stand. Both he and his friends nearly got mugged near the bus station on separate occasions, and he said the police were always being called to the area around the downtown mall. When the smog gets bad in the summer, he said you can't even see the mountains five miles away. Who would want to move to a place like that?
