MUST READ!!! Matcom's Dad (Ex CIA) Weighs In On "SPIES WHO PUSHED FOR WAR"

DAD'S RESPONSE???? (sorry for the CAPS):

"IF all this is true, it's a national nightmare! I never thought I would see the day that I would be so ashamed of my Government and a sitting President."

<snip>

The agency, called the Office of Special Plans (OSP), was set up by the defence secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, to second-guess CIA information and operated under the patronage of hardline conservatives in the top rungs of the administration, the Pentagon and at the White House, including Vice-President Dick Cheney.

The ideologically driven network functioned like a shadow government, much of it off the official payroll and beyond congressional oversight. But it proved powerful enough to prevail in a struggle with the State Department and the CIA by establishing a justification for war.

Mr Tenet has officially taken responsibility for the president's unsubstantiated claim in January that Saddam Hussein's regime had been trying to buy uranium in Africa, but he also said his agency was under pressure to justify a war that the administration had already decided on.

How much Mr Tenet reveals of where that pressure was coming from could have lasting political fallout for Mr Bush and his re-election prospects, which only a few weeks ago seemed impregnable. As more Americans die in Iraq and the reasons for the war are revealed, his victory in 2004 no longer looks like a foregone conclusion.

my father is beside himself right now. scared SHITLESS! can't say i am too happy about that but at least he is 'awake'.

 Dad. YOU have the knowledge to make an INFORMED decision next time.

1. Your ex-CIA Father did an excellent job raising you --
judging by the way you turned out. My congratulations to him -- and to you -- you've got a Father to be proud of.

7. We were discussing the article earlier
Cheney and Rummy have privatized intelligence. Outsourced it. No accountability. Very scary. But the way it alarms your dad makes it worse.

11. So what else is new?
I can't beleive this, even the CIA has been Hijacked. The Bush Admin knew they wouldn't last 8 years. That's why they're breaking every law in the book because their window of oppurtunity is closing.

this nation will implode. Welcome to DU, Blackrain.

...your dad sounds quite naive. but that only makes him an average american. good that he's waking up though. that any of this shit is a surprise to him, it's no wonder we have intelligence problems.

sounds like daschle and dean's statements about the "unthinkable". where have these guys been?

14. matcom, did your dad also read the Salon article?
http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2003/07/16/intelligence/index.html

"Everything we've seen since the war has confirmed intelligence community suspicions about its sources of information," says Greg Thielmann, who ran military assessments at the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research until he retired in October. "The rosy assumption about troops being greeted with flowers and hugs -- that came from that stream of intelligence. The assurance that they knew exactly where the weapons of mass destruction were, or that Iraq was ready to employ chemical and biological weapons in battle within 45 minutes of an order -- all of those stories have proven wrong."

15. Well, what can I say Matcom. I can truely empathize for good reason.
If I could only talk I would and I can't.

I do want to tell you that your Dad is incredibly admirable and he should follow his heart. He has to know there is more to this than
he realizes and he is in a calling now and should accept the challange.
Humanity is at stake and believe me, honor is far more valuable
than this disaster.

17. Thanks Matcom.......didn't know he was your dad....This article has
incredible revelations.........the part about Sharon's companion organization and the bypassing of two governments "official" intelligence sources which are accountable to create this "shadow" organization is truly frightening.

And, how long might this have been going on back through the "Cold War."

This has got to come out.........but will it all be believed..........the control that we here on DU have seen by the media and PNAC loyalists will do everything to stop it.......unless there is another "shadow" government working in OUR favor that we aren't aware of..........and that's possible, I suppose.

My God ANYTHING seems possible in these dark times.

Anyway, thanks.

KoKo

23. Matcom, I'm confused.
Is your Dad Borger, the article's author, or Pike the guy from global security?

On OSP there is no doubt in my mind there is a violation of the Ntl Security Act of 47. If all else fails, this could be the story that eventually undoes them. At least it should get Rummy and Wolfy out of the Pentagon.

28. Matcom, In a way I feel sorry for your dad
to have believed in his gov't so long and to have been to loyal in performing his duties, must be really hard on him to have to change his mind, be awake as you say, at this stage of his life.

I hope more of this gets traction every single day in our media. I mean, how many Americans (other than us liberals) read The Guardian?

Paging Senator Sam Ervin! Your country needs you!!

29. Did you ask your Dad about Team B?
Did you ask your dad about the "Team B" exercise of 1976 (I brought it up when you reported his reaction to Will's McGovern interview)?

Upon further reading, there were more than one "Team B", but the others were on technical subjects and thus noncontroversial.
Paul Wolfowitz (now Rummy's Deputy Secretary) was part of the strategic "Team B" that pruduced a scare-fantasy of Soviet abilities, was leaked to conservative circles, and was used to justify Reagan's arms buildup.
