White House bombshell -- still at an undisclosed location

"new info"? it's a little late in the day -- are they planning to unleash it at breakfast time?

<http://www.msnbc.com/news/937524.asp?0cv=CA01>

Administration officials, who spoke with NBC News on condition of anonymity early Thursday, said they expected “new information” to come out within 24 hours that would bolster the president’s claim in his State of the Union address.

1. The only logical thing it could be
Edited on Thu Jul-17-03 07:43 PM by Sliverofhope
is either a WMD or a document about WMD, otherwise, they would look absolutely stupid. Only those two things could bolster the *'s claim.

Of course, what kind such as that could they have? It's totally doubtful they've been sitting on X metric tonnes of anthrax.

2. depends on their definition of "bolster"
Which I believe is more along the lines of "digging the hole deeper."

4. True enough
I suspect if this is a flop, then the WH really doesn't have anything left to save themselves with. Why wait later than now to reveal the bombshell?

9. Excellent point
They'd like to pretend they never made the switch from he has WMD to they once upon a time had weapons programs. We must make it absolutely clear that we saw them do this.

6. very poor strategy ...

what do they think? that newspapers will sideline the coverup story to save space for a never-arriving "bolstering" story?

this makes them look even weaker.

11. poo!
If they had a bombshell coming out, they would have done some dramatic foreshadowing in their comments today.

Bull.

10. It's the same strategy as knowingly putting a lie out there...
They know from experience that this technique is effective, in a cumalitive way. They've been doing this regulary: say they're coming out with big news, then either let it fade away or come out with something really weak. It still leaves the impression they want to leave with people.

13. Exactly right
It isn't the truth that is important, it is what people believe is the truth.

The same strategy convinced a majority of Americans that Iraqis were on the planes that crashed into the WTC.

Rove/Cheney are experts at mind f*cks.

12. yesterday it was within 1 month
the shit is hitting faster then they ever imagined.

ROVE INITIATED THIS WITH THE 16 WORDS etc,.

He thought they would be able to fake everyone out by diverting all the attention to 16 words that don't really matter.

He was wrong.

he thought he would bury this one the same way he diffused Hatfield with the cocaine allegation.

He was wrong.

This is like those pants returned to the Gap.

18. Yep!
Friday is a good day...people will catch i on either the morning or evening news and, unless you're a news junkie, like we are, you pass the story around socially over the weekend, internalize it as truth and wait for the next thing on Monday.

Do you think Blair set something up by saying "..even if we don't find weapons of mass destruction..." sort of the old "raise democratic expectations" game.....then smash it with some really heavy sh*T?
