1. Are Kerry's attacks getting redundant, or is it me?
He prefaces every statement with an attack on Dean now...I think it takes away from what he's saying..

Either your freeper colors are showing, or you just hate Dean which baffles me because if you were a Dem, you wouldnt be so irrationally accusatory of him.

37. Ridiculous Edwards Question
Its just me but aren't I correct in assuming that not one primary vote has been cast in the election right? The question to Edwards about him lagging in the polls seem ridiculous. Do candidates not even get a chance to lose in U.S. elections? I think that this is a general problem in elections today with an obsession with TV predictions, who is winning... Seems like the actual primaries should determine who has right to be there not TV analysis of polls.

He said that 350 people had been killed on the streets of Detroit in September. He said that he meant to say 35. 350 is about how many people are murdered annually in the streets of Detroit. The local reporter felt obligated to correct him. I wanted to mention it myself.

149. It was a subliminal use of reverse
platiutudes. Some people are afraid of Generals.
Therefore he tells a sweet story of his childhood
and how nice he was to vote for his buddy that got
elected. Where is his buddy today? His buddy got
elected Homeroom Representtaive. But where is his
buddy today? General Clark is a hero a couple
ding-dongs away from the Ovval Office. But where
is his buddy? Do you even know his buddy's name?
It is a subliminal way of sayinfg that running for
other things or having other offices might mean
something but it do not mean what you think it
means. If you know his buddy's name please tell
me what it is. That's why it's not a platitude.
A platiutude is some saying everybody gets that's
been said a million times. This was a original,
subliminal and reverse platitude.

one could say that anyone who takes wheelchairs and artificial limbs away from the poor, elderly, and disabled is not a good guy. Please read the Time magazine cover article about Governor Dean.

QUOTE:
"Dean alienated progressives by tightening spending and successfully pushing tax cuts. "Howard would start (each budget cycle) by cutting programs for the needy, things like wheelchairs and artificial limbs", says State Auditor Elizabeth Ready, who has been both friend and foe to Dean. Horrified liberals would have to claw each benefit back from the tightfisted Governor."

Edwards did great tonight. I thought he won the last debate. I am very surprised Edwards hasn't "broken out" of the pack yet. There's still time I guess. That said, I'm supporting Clark in the primary. If Clark doesn't get the nomination, I will support whichever Dem candidate does.

Fox News is drooling over Dean in the post-debate commentary.

142. I say SHARPTON won
It's hard to stand out in a debate of 10 candidates, and heaven help the party if they dare to say that only the major candidates should participate. Sharpton knows how to say things that separate him from the pack and seems unconcerned with offending non-Democratic primary voters (which would be a problem later down the roas, of course). Clark seemed much improved, as did Kerry. Dean was strong. Kucinich was average, as was Braun, Gebhart and Lieberman. Edwards was weak.

Clark came in second. The rest did not show any fire. IMO Lieberman is an embarassment to the Dem party, he should get the hell out. DK seemed way off and CMB is taking up space, she is a very smart woman but there is no chance she will get the nod, they have to thin this field so that the front runners have more time to debate each other and clarify their message.

172. I agree-Sharpton won.
I was not impressed with my main man DK tonight, but I missed a lot of the debate--until I saw this thread!

I also agree with burythehatchet that Mosley-Braun is very presidential. She's confident, and speaks slowly and clearly. I keep thinking she's the head librarian who sweetly and calmly kicks your ass out before you even have a chance to argue. While the Reverend would sermonize and gesticulate wildly, dragging you by the ear through the entire library as an example.

Unfortunately, of the others only Dean, Edwards, and Kucinich seem really passionate about breaking the BFEE, in my opinion. The rest seem to be going through the motions, as if they don't really BELIEVE that they can turn this country around. It could also be that what I am really seeing is my own cynicism of the military and career politicians. But I don't think so.

Edwards is coming into his own, I think. He did very well tonight.

DK is always mad, and who can BLAME him, but he needs help in articulating his wonderful ideas to the public. I kept nodding off to Lieberman's sonorous drone, until he said Gore. Likewise Gephart and Clinton. And Clark just isn't ready--I think he's out of his element - although I'm finally convinced he's legit.

Sharpton, Edwards and Mosley-Braun shone in this debate, although I am still supporting Dennis, and loving Dean. Any one of these on the ticket would make me very hopeful that our country really can regain it's former glory.

155. For the Record: Gwen Ifill apparently is buddies with Condosleaza RIce....
Awhile back someone posted a story which mentioned how she was cooking dinner with Condi one night.....
Ifill along with the whole Washington Week in Review bunch have all whored themselves. There was a time when I watched it faithfully, back in the days of Paul Duke, when all the panel had a jaundiced eye toward political goings on instead of the genuflecting that goes on today.

In fact, I stopped watching after they did a show just before Iraq started because all of them completely ignored the info about Powell's UN speech being a pack of lies...I got so pissed I even wrote an article about it for Buzzflash entitled "Washington Week in Review 2/7/03: Sins of Omission."

168. I'm sending an e-mail to Gwendalezza...
She wasn't very professional and was way over the top in her phrasing of questions. It was unnecessary and very transparent.

164. My take on the debate tonight....
Here's my take on the debate tonight....

In my opinion, Sharpton was the clear winner of the debate, but the pundits completely discount him.

Dean was really good, but he left himself to two openings in which Kerry zoomed in.

Gephardt----all that hand gesturing and lack of eyebrows really annoys me.

Clark sounded fine, but the military thing was beginning to get very weary on my nerves, and he offered no specifics, really.

Kerry, he did a few good digs, but that's all he seems to do is by framing his answers with "Dean this, Dean that..."---it's a myopic fixation that will hurt him in the end.

Lieberman should just fucking drop out already. He's an embarassment to the Dem party.

Kucinich.....*sigh*.....I have a feeling he'll become a Nader type because he'll be too stubborn to drop out and will stay in like a diseased penny.

Braun----needs to stop focusing wholely on the "I'm a woman" part, and even though she sounded great, really doesn't have a whole lot going for her.

Edwards----young, youthful, Southern, basically the antithesis of Strom Thurmond, ha.

Sharpton---loved the "This is a battle between the Christian Right Wing and the Real Christians" line

Have I left anyone out?

165. But, oh God, can any of them beat Bush and get us out of Iraq?
I was really upset about all those evangelicals in the Bible belt being Bush's base. Can any of our guys win those people? And do we even want to? But can we win without them?

167. Bush will get the hard-core fundies no matter what.
However, speaking as someone who grew up in the Bible Belt and had JEE-zus shoved down my throat most of my early life -- there are substantial numbers of people living in the Bible Belt who are not hard-core fundies, and these people do vote.

Conventional wisdom is that Clark could do very, very well in the Bible Belt south, and I am inclined to agree. I like Dean a lot but I'm concerned that he will be a hard sell outside the northeast. But I could be wrong.

169. Sharpton beat the panel of reporters soundly
Dean beat the panel of candidates. At least those that took him on.

Sharpton, CMB, Clark, Kucinich seemed to have learned not to tangle with the guy.

170. What is it with Edwards and corporate welfare?
Edited on Sun Oct-26-03 10:49 PM by quaker bill
WTF????

Why is this man talking about tax incentives to move existing jobs into the inner city?

What happens to those at work on these jobs now out in the countryside?

I thought from his press, he is working for the common man.

How do tax incentives to move jobs from one place to another around the country accomplish this purpose?

I live in corporate welfare central, where one city bids against the next to move jobs across city lines on the notion that this does something for the community.

This BS has to stop.
