Bush So Hard. A Debate Would Be Fun To Watch.

1. This evening I was thinking
that a 10 minute debate between Duyba and someone like Dean or Clark would SEAL THE DEAL. That should be the focal point of the campaign, the debates. Specifics. Details. Make duyba go extemporanious!

It will be spectacular!

2. Heya Rick!
Any news yet?

GO DEAN! He'd kick Bush's ass back to his golf cart!

3. No offense, but I could slaughter Dumbya in a debate
and I'm nothing special at debating. I also believe I could do a much better job governing, (also not saying much, I realize)

Dumbya's obvious and overwhelming idiocy is the reason I voted Nader in 2000. I never thought for a second that he would get much more than 43~45% of the vote, him being such a trog, and Gore having Clinton's accomplishments behind him. How wrong I was.

Never again.

4. I actually think Dean would do the WORST vs. Bush
Between the big 3 (Kerry, Edwards, Dean), I actually believe Dean would do the worst. That isn't to say he would do poorly, he just appears to be the least well-spoken among the three, which remains central to debating skills. IMO no matter who our candidate is, they will crush Bush in the debates ;-)

5. What debates?
With everything else going on, do you really think Karl Rove is going to let Shrub into an actual debate?

Though, if I were advising the DNC, this should be an attack point next year; if Shrub won't agree to a real debate, call him out on cowardice.

6. Neutered Debates
Will be what we get. They will never let Bush participate in a REAL debate. The questions will all be approved before hand and Bush's handlers would never, ever allow a town hall format where people could ask questions.

Bush has had like 2 press conferences in 3 and a half years. He's not going to start answering questions now!

7. You guys have short memories. They said these things about Gore, too
-- and he did NOT at all "hammer" Bush. Gore stunk in the debates, actually. It turned out that his superior grasp of issues & facts didn't help him a bit.

I was very much on his side, & I loathed Bush, even then. But even I had to admit that the debates themselves were mostly a fiasco for Gore. One could argue that he won by a little "on the issues" - but it certainly didn't look or feel like he won.

I wouldn't be too confident about the outcome of ANY of the Democrats debating with Bush. The rules of those debates are such that there isn't much opportunity for direct exchange between candidates. The debates are structured so as to allow both guys to hide, to a large extent. Bush would just rely on his rote handler-written pieces, & he delivers these adequately. Up until 10 days ago, he was a "fantastically popular" president, relying entirely on handler-written pieces.

The one Democrat who would probably do the best would be Sharpton. He's the only one with unusual rhetorical skills. But of course, for well-known reasons, he won't be the candidate.

8. Right. But there was one thing that killed Gore.
It was the way he acted DURING the debate. The sigh in the first one, standing up and getting in Bush's face (in which Bush calmly nodded). It's the little things that slaughter someone in a debate - I feel Gore was beaten because of his actions. A lot like Bush's daddy was with the whole looking at the time watch fiasco.

9. That's exactly my point. And such a thing could easily happen again.
Bush handles himself in a way that apparently plays very well in the eyes of half the country. Of the 9 Democrats, in the very false & constricted format of the TV debates, I don't think any of them would necessarily come off too well (except perhaps Sharpton, who, as I said, won't be the nominee).

10. Its such a shame too
Because Sharpton would make Bush completely flip out. Of that, I have no doubt. And that would be worth the price of several admissions.
