OxyContin - few become fiendish junkies like LIMBAUGH

Very interesting article in USATODAY disputing the insistence of Republicans that Limbaugh is an innocent victim of a vicious drug which targetted him. The GOP has been flooding the media with the contention that Limbaugh is an innocent 'patient' who was trapped by an evil narcotic while crack whores, winos, and potheads are the truly irresponsible and criminal drug abusers. The truth is that thousands of patients use OxyContin every year without choosing to trade with black market drug rings (associated with terrorists). Rush is in a small reckless minority who choose to seriously abuse this useful drug. It's still a mystery why John Ashcroft has not kept his word in prosecuting these felonies to the fullest extent.


OxyContin half-truths can cause suffering


It's an undeserved bad rap for OxyContin, which offers relief to hundreds of thousands of patients with searing, prolonged agony due to diseases such as cancer, neurological illness and degenerative discs. OxyContin can literally make life livable again for such patients.

One never would know this from the hype that has been swirling around the medication since Limbaugh's confession. It is important to get the facts straight, or pain sufferers who might benefit from OxyContin could be scared away.

The problem isn't with OxyContin itself, but with deliberate criminal misuse. OxyContin is a controlled drug in the same category as morphine. Available since 1995, the medication is now the most widely prescribed narcotic, in large part because it is taken only twice a day.

Just curious, but are there any examples in the record of a large Black or Hispanic man (similar in stature and girth to Limbaugh) making over $100,000 in drug ring purchases for illegal narcotics (over 4,000 mixed pills - no prescription provided) and then that 'menacing' Black man being sent to a posh rehab institute while law enforcement and the district attorney say "Oh, the gentleman is not at all the center of the investigation. We are not interested in charging him at all". That would seem to be a historic case if true. Why the hell is the media so silent on the implications of Limbaugh's case? And why aren't the public defenders of those who are serving long sentences for far less totally outraged?

Because Rush is a mouthpiece for the Reupblicans, he gets off without so much as a slap on the wrist. And don't tell me that it's because he's a celbrity. Robert Downey, Jr. has been imprisoned. Tommy Chong is going to be (is he serving sentence now?). In short, the war on drugs is more full of crap than I initially thought it to be. Not only does it not go after well-to-do white people, it IGNORES their fascist lackies!

Media conservative whores will claim he's a hapless victim to an addictive drug; then Repubs like Jeb Bush are going to side with the pharmeceuticals to stiffen penalties for drug abusers of oxycontin and work to reduce the company's liability through tort reform.
