Can Tom Kean (9/11 Inquiry) Be Trusted?
It's wonderful news (and front page at that!) that Kean is threatening subpoenas to force the White House to turn over PDB's(President Daily Brief)for the days and weeks leading to 9/11.

However, do you think this is just window-dressing? A response to Max Cleland's demands? Pressure from victim's families?

In other words, is Kean REALLY doing the 'right thing'? I think I recall a post on DU at the time he was named that indicated he had ties to the Saudi royals or to the Carlysle Group. Does anyone else recall that?

Wanting to believe, but not sure...

1. good question
He's from New Jersey, and I'd guess that he's getting some pressure from the 9/11 families in NJ. Not that people matter to Republicans, but I don't think those families will accept a GOP whitewash report and the publicity might be nasty.

2. I hate to say it but
Some of the Republicans around here have been responsive to citizen action groups. I know because I'm in several. One of our groups is headed by a very pushy person and she gets these guys moving--both Dem and Republican. I have seen her play Republicans against Democrats quite successfully to get action. So in some situations yes, Republicans are responsive to citizens. Especially when they're being jawboned.

3. As a former governor in a state that lost many people on 9/11
He dosn't have a choice in the matter.

There is only one way to do something like this. The right way!

If he is implicated in a whitewash or coverup it will haunt him for the rest of his life. Not to mention the damage it will do to the NJ Rep. Party.
