Kucinich wins Green endorsement

In a coffee shop on Main Street yesterday, the New Hampshire Green Party threw its support behind presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich. And if Kucinich fails in his attempt for the Democratic nomination, Green Party spokesman Guy Chichester said the party may try to recruit the Ohio congressman to run on its ticket in the general election.

Yesterday's endorsement was made in the couch section of the Coffee Mill. Green Party organizers and Kucinich campaigners would have preferred the State House across the street as a setting, but said they were denied access.

The endorsement marks the first time in the Green Party's 13-year history in the state that it has endorsed a member of another political party in the presidential primary.

"We know the primary is controlled by money," Chichester said as a woman ordered a small coffee a few feet away. "Dennis deserves the support of all who care about peace, social justice and environmental sanity."

Cross-endorsements is the best chance for the Greens at this point, especially in national races. Not to mention that Kucinich is 100 times better on the issues than Nader was.

His constituents here in Lakewood, OH will not be pleased with anything that helps Bush. I don't think he'll do that though.

His target was President Clinton. I bet you saw what was wrong with it then.

Christ if I wont go Green, I bet Dennis Kucinich wouldnt either.

Green voters have flocked to DK since the beginning of his campaign.

He won't run on a 3rd party ticket. If he doesn't get the dem nomination, he'll go back to congress. He's a democrat.

If he does get the nomination, he'll not only have the green vote, but other 3rd party and independent votes as well.

He's polling in the single digits among Democrats, and Greens are only about 2% of the electorate.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Co-chairs of the Green Party of the United States are advising members of the news media and the general public today about a potentially misleading news story that indicates Green Party support for Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich.

According to the story, the New Hampshire Green Party recently announced its endorsement of Mr. Kucinich. The endorsement decision reportedly took place at a meeting in a coffee shop that was attended by six individuals.

Green Party officials wish to clarify that the half-dozen individuals responsible for the news release in question are not affiliated with the Green Party of the United States. Furthermore, New Hampshire is one of five states which still do not have a functioning state Green Party.

Reporters are advised to check stories about Green Party policies, campaigns, events, etc. with the national party (media contacts listed above, or check http://www.gp.org) or with affiliated state Green Parties (see the index at http://www.gp.org/states.html).

The Green Party of the United States, recognized by the FEC as the party's national committee, includes 43 accredited state Green Parties, and will hold the party's national convention in Milwaukee in June, 2004. The decision about whom, how, and whether to run in the 2004 national election will be made democratically by all the accredited state Green Parties at the Milwaukee convention. The Green Party of the United States held the 2000 national convention in Denver at which Ralph Nader was nominated.

why I wish our primaries were only open to registered D's.

In Pennsylvania, for instance. And you cannot change your party affiliation within 30 days of the primary.

I doubt that Kucinich would accept a Green Party nom anyway. He knows how much that would divide the left.

I guess it depends on whether Kucinich's Green supporters are "portable" - whether they would support a candidate they've been calling "Repug-lite" for months just because he asked them to. And this is assuming that he does throw support to the eventual nominee.
