Six American Women Soldiers Have Died in Iraq
The most recent:

PFC Rachel Bosveld, age 19, killed in a mortar attack on 10/26

The others:

PFC Analaura Esparza Gutierrez, 21, killed by a grenade on 10/1
SPC Kristin E Parker, 23, died of non-combat injuries on 9/29
SPC Alyssa R Peterson, 27, killed by a "non-hostile" weapon discharge on 9/15
SGT Melissa Valles, 26, killed by a "non-hostile" weapon discharge on 7/9
PFC Lori Piestewa, 23, killed in the attack on the 507th on 3/23

Please let me know if you know of any others. It's not that these women matter any more or less than the men who are killed over there, but IMHO it's another under-reported number that would probably freak out the general public, if they only knew.

1. One of the first killed was in
Afghanistan. She was a woman sergeant on a helicopter. Was totally ignored and sad to say I cannot remember her name. The helicopter went down on the Pakistan side of the border. On the day of her funeral here in the states, her parents home was robbed.

2. Three women soldiers died in Afghanistan
Thank you for reminding me. They were:

1st Lt Tamara Archuleta, 23, in a helicopter crash on 3/23/03
S/Sgt Anissa A Shero, 31, in a plane crash on 6/12/02
Sgt Jeannette L Winters, 25, in a plane crash on 1/9/02

That war isn't over, either.

3. When we used to have a President (Clinton)
the Repukes were always screaming "better not be any women coming home in bodybags." Now they don't give a damned if it's women, men, children, soldiers or civilians. Slimy Shrub must have his way. Really don't think America realizes how many women have died there or men for that matter.

5. PFC Shoshanna Johnson was injured in combat, denied equal benefits
It's a travesty what this woman is going through, especially given that Jessica Lynch is basking in her "hero's glory" right now.

Urban Leagues calls for inquiry into and review of Spec. Johnson disability decision

NEW YORK -- National Urban League president and CEO Marc H. Morial today called upon the U.S. Army 's Acting Secretary, the Honorable Les Brownlee, to conduct an immediate inquiry into and review of the Army's decision to award Army Spec. Shoshana Johnson a 30 percent disability benefit for the injuries she received while a prisoner of war in Iraq.

In his letter to the Under Secretary, Mr. Morial notes that Pfc. Jessica Lynch and Spec. Johnson were captured at the same time in the same attack, and that Johnson was released a week later and is still recovering from gun shot wounds to both of her ankles. "Yet," the letter states, "Pfc. Lynch is receiving an 80 percent disability benefit compared to Spec. Johnson's 30 percent."

Warning: lots of pop-ups

6. i think there are two things going on...
1) "soldier" is still a "male" term. when people call on washington journal they are constantly saying "our boys," "our men." and they are not saying it in the man=mankind=all humans form. it is man=not-women=only not-women. therefore it is easy to forget that there are both sexes dying even when the majority are men, because the majority of the military is men.

2) ....oh shit....i forgot what i was going to say.
