repugs, conservatives, Rwingers and their big mouths
this might be a big fat "duh!!!" but have you ever noticed that people of the conservative vein have absolutely no problem blurting out their ideas, no matter who is in the room, who might be listening, who's feelings might be hurt.

in my women's health collective we use inclusive language and when i blurted out that deproprovera was "horrible" that was rude because one gal used it and had no problems with it.

in another forum we are discussing adoption and one gal who had a positive adoption process (giving her child up) was feeling judged and demeaned by some posters' comments.

ive put my foot in it before and have felt like a total asshole for it. when im talking with people i really dont know well i try not to assume that they are of the same political POV.

i dont think that same consideration is there for "them" and its not just the o'rielly's and limbaughs. its your average folk.

back before the 2000 election (or maybe after i dont remember) i was at my mom's school helping out. i asked one of the secretary's "who will/did you vote for" and the first words out of her mouth were "I WOULD NEVER VOTE FOR A BABY-KILLER!!" whoa! where did that come from? did she assume i thought the same? was she threatened by my mere asking? did she not care that maybe i had had an abortion and her words would hurt my feelings? (i hadnt at the time but if this conversation was held in the 2004 election that ho would get my mind!) did she know that the pictures of sarah and rachel on her cork board would have been triplets if not for their parents deciding that three would be too risky (they had been trying for years and did in vitro)?

so what is it with these folk? persecution complex? or are they just assholes?

what comes first? the rudeness then the conservatism? or the conservatism and then the rudeness?

just some food for thought.

1. all of the above. The unexamined life leads to a smugness and a
belief that all believe thusly. God help us.

2. That's the problem
We try to be all things to all people, and that's not going to happen. If we on the Left are going to succeed, some people will have to be offended. Some people will have to be left behind. We ought not waste our time trying to appease people who will never agree with us about anything.

3. bump and more
wow. i wrote this right before i left work and its already on the second page.

i do agree that democrats (especially the elected kind) need to speak up and fight for what they stand for.

but there is a way to get your point across, in a forceful (as in powerful and persuavive) way without being an asshole.

5. It's that damn liberal media which lets them get away with it
with their "I'm sorry I got caught" apologies.
