Kerry, Lieberman and another democratic senator were absent
I heard reported and confirmed with Kerry and Lieberman offices that neither of them were present for the vote on an independent committee to investigate the SOTU lies.

Each office said the Senators were out of town. Does anyone know anything more about this? Where they were? Who the other democratic senator was?

I feel this was an important vote even if we didn't have a chance of winning.

51 to 49 is still a loss
It was not important to show up for a defeat. This not an issue.

As much as some of you like to think they do.

It was not important to show up for a defeat. This IS not an issue.

4. The scenario that I see is --

If I were a moderate Republican who was on the edge and I knew that it was just two votes from passing, I would be more likely to consider hanging my you know what out if I were sure it would make a difference. Also, if it wasn't important enough for two (maybe three) of the names hoping to represent the Democratic Party to show up, maybe it was'nt a big enough issue. Six votes is many more than three.

2. Daschle has arranged to call them back to DC
when a vote comes up where they are needed.

Kerry was doing a major speech in NY and several broadcast interviews which called more public attention to Bush's incompetence as president. Nothing will work against Bush until more of the public hears the truth about these issues.

3. You are absolutely correct.......
All the prez candidates who are senators were ABSENT! ALL of them!

Kerry, Lieberman, Graham, Gephardt (would have to verify of geppie was gone) and Kucinich. Miller was another...which was a vote for the repukes anyways.

That's right, this was a crucial vote and the fact that they weren't there for it (shirking their jobs, IMO) -- no doubt justifying it with "well, we aren't going to win anyways so no real need to be there" totally signifies the attitude that cost the Dems the senate in the first place: we aren't going to win......so why try?

Well I'd like to tell these bozos that:

1. their presence may have been crucial because a couple of repukes might have crossed the aisle at the last minute; and

2. ALL DEMS need to be on record, en block, on this. Whether we are going to lose the vote or not!

What a GAME all these politics are to those dudes. A big game.....

It would have been SALIENT to the American public to have seen a loss by ONE vote...or by a tie-breaker vote by none other than Dick Cheney!

ASSHOLES!!!!!!!

5. Thank you
I didn't know about the others but I do think it was an important statement of solidarity to make and especially important to the ones who voted for the war (supposedly based on these specific lies).

7. Kucinich too?
Thought I recall it was a point of honor that his attendance was perfect?

6. This is a big deal.
If they won't do the job now, how can we trust them to do their job if elected pres. Will they be like bush spending most of his time fund raising?
