Give me Quippy Bush Education Numbers!
Sorry for posting this here and not the education/social issues forum. I just thought it would get buried and I need this right away.

You see, I'm going to put together a half-page flyer to hand out with my Halloween goodies on Friday. Two pieces of candy (the good stuff!) and a folded flyer will go in every bag. It will read something like :

SCARY, ISN'T IT? (In those drippy blood letters)

Then I want some Bush education numbers....short quips on how he hasn't funded the No Child Left Behind, etc. Maybe four or five. Can you give me some links, too, if you have them?

Last year we went through 10 lbs of candy before we ran out (early!). So, this year we've invested in 18 lbs. to give out to the kiddies. Since our area is a family 'burb, I'd like to get this flyer in the works asap!

Give me your ideas!!! :)

1. Great Idea
I have no idea where to look - but I will search around and see if I can't scrounge anything up.

2. Why politicize something that's supposed to be fun?
I know your heart is in the right place, and maybe it would be more effective putting the flyers on car windshields at the local supermarket. We had someone in our neighborhood do something similar, except her flyer leaned to the right. After that, she was referred to as "the nut down the street".

4. "The nut down the street"
Is the precinct chair, thank you very much. Since when did we take off caring to celebrate a holiday? We have a very high number of children in my precinct and I would guess a lot of parents who care about their children's education.

5. P.S. Would it be too political for you
if I dressed up as a WMD on Friday?

Education Law May Hurt Bush
No Child Left Behind's Funding Problems Could Be '04 Liability

By Jim VandeHei

FAIRLEA, W.Va. -- President Bush's No Child Left Behind education program -- acclaimed as a policy and political breakthrough by the Republicans in January 2002 -- is threatening to backfire on Bush and his party in the 2004 elections.

snip

With federal budget deficits nearing all-time highs and the tab for Iraq expected to grow, Bush and Congress are unlikely to provide the states with the billions of dollars they seek to quickly adapt to the new system.

Many states, including West Virginia, anticipate cutting spending on other programs next year to meet the law's demands, which will draw more attention to funding shortfalls right before the elections. Moreover, just as the campaign is heating up next year, states will be releasing second-year data on how many students and schools are making the grade.

Bush's tax cuts could complicate education issues, too. Many states, including West Virginia, link their tax rates to the federal government's, so Bush's recent rounds of cuts drained revenue from state coffers that otherwise would have helped fund education. Former Vermont governor Howard Dean, a leader in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, frequently explains to voters that some local governments also were forced to raise property taxes to pay for education and to account for the domino effect of the Bush tax cuts.

6. Thanks Salin!
I can condense some of those things into bulleted points for the flyer quite easily. :)
