Message to the Troops in Iraq
The concern is that the politicals at the White House will dictate a hasty and potentially disastrous withdrawal from Iraq --- one engineered not to create a long-term good outcome in the country, but to create a very specific short-term benefit, to eliminate or reduce the president’s political vulnerability on the issue in the fall of 2004.
--from Talking Points Memo (Josh Marshall)

Got that all you suck..ah I mean soldiers in Iraq? How does it feel to be treated as political cannon fodder?

You see, Bush knows there aren't enough troops in Iraq right now. And he ain't about to send more. Hell, that would be an admission that Iraq has gone to hell in a handbasket. And Bush can't get re-selected if everyone thinks Iraq isn't quite "mission accomplished."

So the plan is for all you brave bullet-catchers over there to stand around and suck it up until Bush can get re-selected. Then after he's safely back in the White House he can send you guys some more help.

P.S. I wouldn't stand around together in bunches and try to stay low.
