Repub. demands Graham apologize for suggesting Bush Impeachment
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2003/7/18/160917.shtml

More great logic from the right. Suggesting impeachment during a time of war is "crossing the line" and hurting America. I personally do not think Bush should be impeached based simply on the fact that Bill CLinton's impeachment was based on a much less severe issue. There is no reason to try and legitimize Clinton's impeachment by suggesting that the bar is set there now. Still though, I don't see how it is inappropriate to suggest impeachment as a possiblity as this COngressman claims.
-------------------------
Congressman Mark Foley
July 18, 2003

Dear Senator Graham: Over the last few months you have launched almost daily attacks on President Bush. You’ve criticized his handling of the economy, slammed his tax relief package and complained about his efforts to liberate Iraq and protect Americans from terrorism. You’ve voted to obstruct a prescription drug benefit for Florida seniors and have filibustered Miguel Estrada – an outstanding nominee for the Fourth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.

Considering your desire to leave your position as Florida’s senior senator and cater to the liberal Democratic presidential primary electorate, I suppose it only makes sense that you would engage in this daily attack campaign. However, when you suggested yesterday there were grounds for impeaching President Bush, you crossed a line that I and many other Floridians were rather shocked you would cross.

Even as a Republican I have respected you as a lawmaker and a colleague. I have always considered you a fair person. With this charge, however, many of us in Florida are wondering to what lengths you will go to jump-start your presidential campaign.

The war on terrorism is not over. Our men and women continue to serve bravely in Iraq and in other locations around the world to preserve the freedom our nation cherishes. To level such outrageous charges and, worse yet, to raise the specter of impeachment is both reckless and uncharacteristic of your reputation.

I hope you will reflect on the charges you made yesterday and reach out to President Bush by offering an apology to him. Certainly, it is an apology that many Floridians believe is owed.

As you spend the weeks ahead campaigning in Iowa, New Hampshire and other early presidential primary states, I hope you will not forget about those who first sent you to Washington. The citizens of Florida do not want a Senator who spends his time attacking our President and obstructing our nation’s efforts to combat terrorism.

Senator Graham, Florida is not a consolation prize.

I look forward to hearing word of your apology in the days ahead.

With best regards,

Mark Foley
Member of Congress

In reply to this whinning fucker may I simply say, "get over it!!!!". Yep, your sock puppet is being exposed; your sock puppet does deserve to be impeached for lying to the US Congress in order to launch a war; you sock puppet deserves to be removed and then tried as the criminal he is; and the right wing needs to be exposed as the Nazis they are. Now, why don't you run along and hide under your desk in the House and scream that the nasty Dems might attack you, you big brave prick.

6. How about trying to jump start your floundering Senate campaign, Mark?
Edited on Fri Jul-18-03 03:59 PM by orangepeel68
by criticizing your state's senior office holder? Is that okay in "a time of war?"

If Mark Foley thinks he can take on Bob Graham in Florida, bring it on. Moron.

11. some interesting quotes...
http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/stories/1998/12/16/impeachment/

-snip-

Some lawmakers questioned the timing of the U.S. military action against Iraq.

House Majority Leader Dick Armey released a statement Wednesday evening saying that people's suspicions that the attack on Iraq was motivated by the president's desire to avoid or distract from the impeachment debate are "themselves a powerful argument for impeachment."

"After months of lies, the president has given millions of people around the world reason to doubt that he has sent Americans into battle for the right reasons," Armey said. "The fact that Americans are expressing these doubts shows that the president is losing his ability to lead. If the president refuses to resign for the sake of the nation, I believe he should be impeached and face Senate trial."

He may not know. He is a republican.

Congressman Foley,

I just read the open letter you sent to Congressman Graham concerning his call for impeachment. May I remind you that US troops were in harm's way when calls were being made for Clinton's impeachment? Admonishments such as yours make you out to be, in the immortal words of Monty Python, a "whiny little git." In the future, please think through what you are saying before publishing such statements. The reputation of the US government is not at it's best at home or abroad, and this sort of thing just supports the antagonists.

20. Did Jesse Helms apologize?
It seems to me that he issued a veiled threat to Clinton, something about his being shot by the army if he should visit NC. I have let the incident become foggy in memory, but maybe someone else here can help with detail.
