This way I dont feel that I would react so early in my life that all I was doing was parroting my parents. I got to see both sides and make up my own mind, on my own. I think that I am much more whole as a person knowing I stood on my own thoughts and not having my parents decide them for me.

I know many here think its great to have your kids parrot you. I just think that kids need to see all sides and make up their own minds.

I am here so you see what my choice was but I feel I got to see and debate both sides. I am glad I had that chance and think it is good to educate children with no agenda. They will find the way to the correct choices.

I think kids with Dem parents are lucky, considering that most of the world around them is DECIDEDLY right wing right now.

And, BTW, the timing of your post is conspicuously close on the heels of another thread about a DUer's child's political views. PErhaps you could have saved this so it doesn't appear that you are calling her out.

As to that poster, good that your child is exposed to your political views. HE IS THE LUCKY ONE--and he is old enough to handle it.

I teach at a university, and, lynne, you would be astonished at the rightist, naive views my students have. They have been shielded from everything from the gender issues to civil rights. When I talk to them about things like Rosa Parks, I have to begin at the most elementary terms. Thank god that liberalhistorians son will be a bright and shining light in his classes one day.

That is a sick, idealist, dream to make your kids lil jchilds. And yes it was posted when it was as a responce to the other post without making waves. I am fairly new here and I do have my own thoughts but am still trying to not cause problems. Sorry if you disagree but That is how I feel.

My dad joined the Democratic Party!

He was protestant and switched to catholic. But he remained strong repuke,till he died.

My mom is a Dem. and my dad is Rep. They are both politically active and well-read, so we had some spirited conversations in my house. I think it's great for children to learn all about an issue and make their own choices.

Also, you learn you can separate politics from personalities. You'll never hear me saying all Republicans suck because my father is a wonderful man and an old-school conservative.

My dad is pretty fiscally conservative, but he was uninvolved in American politics. He liked both Reagan and Clinton, but never became a citizen. My mom naturalized but never voted though she abhors Bush. I'm forcing her to vote against Bush next year.
