Question re: Kelly

At the end of the questioning of Kelly by the British Parliament, it was insinuated by the Parliament that Kelly was merely a pawn being set up by the Ministry of Defense. Basically, the allegation was that someone else leaked the information and Kelly was the "fall guy" (actual quote).

If this is true, why was he killed? It just doesn't add up.

Is this whole thing a smokescreen? Perhaps he was killed for something unrelated, like his knowledge as a microbiologist (they certainly seem to have a lot of bad things happen to them these days)?

Any other theories?

2. Makes sense

This would explain why it was so blatant. Clearly, whoever killed Kelly INTENDED for people to see it as an assassination, even if it will never officially be labeled as such. But I think they made a serious misstep this time. The British Parliament is out for blood and will now start asking all the right questions.
