Poll question: What's your number one campaign issue for 2004 ?
Last night I got some ideas ( I know there are many more ) on what issues matter most. Tonight I want to get a feeling for how the issues rank. Vote for your top 2004 campaign issue.

1. All of the above
Probably could put that under, "Changing the direction this country is heading".

3. Well said.
I agree, and I haven't voted because these issues are so interconnected to one another, I don't separate them in my thinking.

9. I didn't vote
I think the obvious answer for any Democrat is changing the direction this country is heading. In fact, I would think that would be the obvious answer for any American that isn't brain-washed. How can anyone think unending record deficits, a never-ending war on an undefinable entity ("terra"), an assault upon our world's natural treasures (breathable air and drinkable water), and rising unemployed and uninsured Americans are good things?

19. OK, you want a ranking...
In that case, I vote against "War/PNAC" because I think that I think that this country can gain more by the force of example than it can by the example of force.

4. "PNAC" by a landslide
Liberty and prosperity a distant second.

"A strong nation, like a strong person, can afford to be gentle, firm, thoughtful, and restrained. It can afford to extend a helping hand to others. It's a weak nation, like a weak person, that must behave with bluster and boasting and rashness and other signs of insecurity." Jimmy Carter (1976)

5. Another all of the above
plus reform of the election process across the country (not sure if that falls under campaign finance reform.) It is an absolute top priority to restore confidence in the election process and to assure maximum transparancy.

6. Definitely the Patriot Act...
the others are all important, but civil liberties and freedom at home take precedence over everything else.

8. Social Security is probably lost already
But I hate the damn deficit. All the National Debt does is make sure the budget contains a line for interest payments (approx 30% of the total budget) for the forseeable future. Talk about pissing money away!

Here is my take on patriotism: We are too rich and powerful a nation to have to carry that kind of debt. Anybody who wants the kind of deficits we are running now can only hate America. The Tax Cuts were the most unpatriotic thing any administration has done in a long time. Patriots pay their taxes to help keep America strong. Those who don't want to pay taxes obviously hate America. Norquist=Osama.

12. Wow
the econmomy trumps the environment by a landslide. I guess the repugs aren't the only ones choosing money over survival (and with our current environmental policies, it will likely only take a few generations at best to render our planet uninhabitable).

This country may even be past the fork in the road. I hope it's not too late.
