Which Big Name Democrat Will Be The First To Drop Out Of The Race

My prediction is Lieberman and Gephardt and Kerry will be the beneficiaries.

For chrisakes, he was Al Gore's running mate in 00 and he's only polling at 15%.

That's what I want to know. The DLC candidates are Lieberman, Dean, Edwards, Kerry, and Graham. Did I leave any out?

Gephardt's policies are anti-DLC, unlike Dean, whose policies are pro-DLC. That's the difference.

15. I don't have a visceral dislike for him

I have two specific reasons. His vote that helped override Clinton's veto of PSLRA, and his Rose Garden appearance which undermined Tom Daschle as the leader of the Senate. Funny thing is there are still more registered Dems than Repubs nationally although the ratio is less, and doean't seem like an awful lot of Repubs try to answer the Dem challenge by being more like them. That ISN'T to discredit moderates.

I think Holy Joe will try to tough it out for a while. It is tough for anyone in a leadership position in Congress to run for President. They seem to bring a lot of negative baggage to the table. I think it is becasue they have to actually take postions and make comprimises on national issues and that causes their negatives to be higher. Gov's can run without a previous national record. Look at Bush in 2000 and his compassionate conservative crap. You think he could pull that one again after his first term? Not likely.

11. Gephardt will last at least through the opening of the primaries

he still has the lead in Iowa. Unless his popularity (and name recognition) drops substantially there, I can't see him dropping out. I would bet that the strategy would be to take that momentum as a big bounce and try to use it to win other primaries.

Maybe after a couple of more primaries if the bounce doesn't occur.

I don't think he will be first. I venture to guess that one of the lower money candidates will drop out before the primaries begin.

What does Joe offer that the other candidates don't?

except for his religiosity.

He's an unexceptional thinker.

He's a poor debater.

And an even poorer orator.

In retrospect Joe was the most implausible of vice presidential nominees.

Gephardt will be the first big name out. He looks likely to lose Iowa or at least not win it big. He has a House seat and thus is up for reelection. I don't see him lasting past NH. Whichever one of Graham and Edwards loses SuperTuesday will drop out second. Lieberman may also go then too. My prediction is that this will be a race between Kerry, Graham, and Dean most likely or Kerry, Edwards, and Dean a little less likely, or Kerry, Lieberman, Dean which I think is least likely. Once it gets down to those three things will get fun.

Gephardt looks like he's already running out of steam. Saw him on....C-Span or something, he looked like he was bored with his own self.

So I'll say him--but I think he'll stay as long as the money lasts.
