1. Miss
In my experience it seems like election returns from Mississippi tend to bounce around all over the place given the highly racially polarized voting patterns and precincts.

14. NEWSFLASH: PER MIKE MOORE, attorney general MS
In fourteen counties, Republicans were videotaping EVERY VOTER as they signed their name and cast their vote.

According to Moore, it was an intimidation attempt to make people stay home. Moore saw his own secretary on one of the tapes.

Kentucky has just basically been declared for the republican and the media says this is the big test for '04---as in "bye, bye, loser Democrats". They are so subtle. This disgusts me. The propaganda (building on the great repuke victory in CA) has just begun.

I love it. I so want Mississippi to stay Dem. Kentucky was a loss from the start, due to a scandal plagued Dem Governor heading out of office.

But if Musgrove can pull it out, I can easily point out Republican weakness in the south.

Some Counties Report Party Interference With Voting
People In Madison, Copiah, Lafayette Complain

POSTED: 11:32 a.m. CST November 4, 2003
UPDATED: 11:34 a.m. CST November 4, 2003

JACKSON, Miss. -- Polling stations around the state are so far reporting strong turnouts for today's general election, but the busy voting has not been without problems.

Secretary of state spokesman David Blount said several counties -- including Madison, Copiah and Lafayette -- have reported problems with party representatives interfering with poll workers.

Today at midmorning, Secretary of State Eric Clark sent a statement to circuit clerks and election commissions statewide alerting them to the problem.

Clark said his office has received calls about poll watchers who are "stating they have the right to stand at or behind the poll workers' tables, or sit at the poll workers' tables, so that they can watch as the poll workers mark the poll book."

26. I think Jim Hood is in. I know that Ronnie was hoping to bring
together the coalition of good ole boys and African American voters. He was hoping that the voters would realize that ole Haley ain't "one of them." Ronnie Musgrove is a good guy, a very hard worker. He grew up the hard way over in Panola county.

I talked to a number of "good ole boys" in Northeast Mississippi. They weren't buying Haley's junk. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Great sign about the Delta voters. Ronnie was in the schools last week over in the Delta.

38. Interesting Dems got more machines in one area
http://www.wlox.com/Global/story.asp?S=1510960&nav=6DJHIuye

Both Musgrove and Lt. Governor candidate Barbara Blackmon thought a big turnout at predominantly black precincts would bolster their vote totals. The democrats initially got what they wanted. Election commissioners had to bring three more voting booths to the North Gulfport precinct to handle crowds that easily beat primary totals. Precinct manager Mary Ducksworth said the turnout this time was "much better. We got sleepy last time."

Biloxi's Donal Snyder Community Center also ordered extra voting stands, when its early morning turnout exceeded expectations.

And I read part 1 of Zell's article in the Washington Post, I aim to see that our party works hard to reach out to all of you. I think Edwards did a great job in the debates pointing how alot of Southerners feel talked down too especially by our Dem candidates.

We will and must reach out to all, let's be the National Party we need to be!!!

72. Here is the deal. Mississippi is widely considered the MOST
conservative state in the Union. Bush and Cheney and Guiliani and others rolled in to help the former head of the RNC. This is the state of Trent Lott. If Musgrove pulls this off, it will be huge, huge, huge.

Go Ronnie.

75. Remember, you need 50% OR MORE to win
Regardless of who gets the most votes, you need a majority to win. If no one gets 50%, it goes to the Legislature. Four years ago, no one got 50%, and the Legislature elected Musgrove.

Don't worry, folks, the Delta hasn't come in.

Here is why I am hopeful. Here in my area, precincts are going for musgrove--traditionally conservative, usually republican precincts are going for Musgrove! AND they are keeping our black Democratic sheriff in!

It's looking pretty good.

It will seesaw all night. Sometimes will be thousands of votes apart, sometimes will be exactly even, then other candidate will pull ahead.

When the Delta vote comes in, it will throw Musgrove over the top.

I need another glass of wine. :-)

99. I remember 1996
Watching the Mississippi returns for the Presidential race. For a fleeting hour or two it seemed like Bill Clinton would carry the state. What a coup that would have been seeing as how he didn't campaign in the state. The numbers bounced around like a ping-pong ball before Dole won 49%-44%.

Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 09:59 PM by sgr2
They are split on governor. But they think the second in command should be GOP. They are heavily in favor of a Dem Secretary of State because they want a trustworthy Dem counting the votes. They are heavily in favor of a GOP State auditor, because they think a Republican can count the money better. They are heavily in favor of a Democratic Attorney General, because they think a Democrat will be fair to all, not just GOP donors. Heck, they are also heavily in favor of a Dem Secretary of Agriculture, because we're tree huggin liberals... and they seem to respect that.

Interesting. Very interesting.

Forever. I can't wait for 10 years from now, when the south is voting overwhelmingly Dem... recognizing the error. I know it's a ways off, but I believe it is inevitable.

My two cents (I'm from Ohio but I was born in South Carolina). Lived in SC till I was 10.
