Name the first college in America to accept Blacks....
I have read it is Hillsdale College, which
is a right-wing bastion of conservatism.

Anyone know anything different?

I just think it is interesting if it is true.

1. I think it was Oberlin
Or maybe Antioch -- both in Ohio.
John
Hillsdale is conservative, but generally rational. I've known several people who went to school there and they are generally very nice folks. Repug, yes -- but decent.

3. Oberlin...
was the first according to my Googling. Seems like a very liberal college.... Jerry from Ben & Jerry is an alumnus.

5. I've Got the First Black College Graduate Info
According to Black-History-Month.net, it was in 1826, when Edward Jones received a B.A. degree from Amherst College in Massachusetts.

It took almost 50 more years for Harvard to graduate its first black student. Yale awarded the first American Ph.D. to a black student in 1876.

6. Oberlin was the first to admit black students
as a matter of routine and also the first coeducational college. In fact, it was founded as a coed college before there were any all-women's colleges, the first of which was Mount Holyoke.
