By running, Gore could help Dems define themselves -CHC Sun Times

<Snip> Al Gore should reconsider his decision not to run for the Democratic presidential nomination for 2004. Why? Look around at what is happening to the Democrats since Gore bowed out last December: the party splintering into its demographic pieces, name-calling among the jostling group running, conflicting and contradictory policies being touted.

Indeed, Bush was less beaten up in the primary season than was Al Gore. Bill Clinton served as his most stiff competition, not the other Bill--Bill Bradley--insofar as Clinton's baggage hounded Gore throughout the primaries and the general election.

This time around there is no front-runner in the large Democratic field. The fact that Howard Dean--two months ago a curious long shot--is now considered a leading contender shows the lack of heft available. Joe Lieberman has revealed himself to be what he was: a decent prospect for vice president.

John Kerry, the early pick of party insiders, might end up being a strong finisher, because he has not shown much speed out of the box. But Kerry has always seemed a little shop-worn and regional as a candidate. His flirtations with the national ticket in the past were tentative. He likely peaked in 2000, just missing being Gore's vice presidential pick.

1. I totally agree
I say this as I am sitting here listening to Gillespie, the incoming RNC chairman, say Democrats don't stand for anything.

We stand first and foremost from removing Bush* from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and undoing to the extent we can the damage he has done. That means restoring fiscal responsibility, establishing a national health care system, restoring our prestige around the world, mending the deterioration of our social services and entitlement programs, rolling back the tax cuts, protecting a woman's right to choose, acknowledgement of gay and lesbian rights, protecting the environment -- all of these are things Democrats stand for and they are all issues championed by Al Gore.

One thing no one can take away from Gore is that he unquestionably called it right on the Iraq War. We can definitely win the war, he said, it's what happens afterwards that is the question. Later on, about two days prior to the start of the war, he was quoted as saying, I wouldn't start this war.

It was Gore who in a speech to New York who helped answer the question, "Why do they hate us," when explaining the roots of terrorism, something this misadministration has adequately failed to address even to this day.

It was Gore who pointed out that in order for Dems to win elections we must differeniate ourselves from the Republicans. This is one thing most of our current candidates have failed to do.

So yes, I totally agree with your premise. draftGore.

3. Very interesting article
It is no secret I prefer him to any other candidate. I will support anyone who gets the nomination, however I really would like that person to be Gore.

7. Gore???
......I'm still waiting for the jerk to step up to the plate......One thing is certain, Gore has certainly distanced himself from the DLC......I'm hoping that he is simply allowing the current candidates to establish the strongest of the field for VP slot.......BTW "jerk" in my world is an endearing term....lol...best wishes

8. Sun Times = Washington Times
not fit to wipe my ass.

Gore is, as much as it pains me to say, is old hat. I think he has lots of potential out of the race, but ultimately, its the people who need to tell their elected and to-be elected officials what they want.

having the elected elite stumble around trying to figure out where "they" stand on the issues will get us no where.

For the second week in a row the Gore Support Center will hold it's weekly chat on Monday. Last week we had a great turnout, but some people were unable to get in due to the chat room capacity. We won't let that happen anymore. We have installed a new chat software that is the best you can get. You now have the power to register you own nickname to use each chat. We also now have the power to ban un-wanted lurkers from the chat to keep sanity. We are sure you will enjoy your Gore Chat.

Last week we discussed upcoming events and possible ways to GOTW. We had a very good chat with good ideas. We must keep having chats to keep the ideas fresh and keep the people motivated. So here is this weeks chat objective:

*More GOTW Ideas

*Labor Day Rally

*Media Coverage

*Funding

*And much more!

Please come and join us at 8:00 CST on Monday Night. We hope to see all of you there to inaugurate our new chat room!
