Wes Clark: I don't think Outkast is really breaking up
View this ad and let post your thoughts. I think this might catch the attention of the younger voters who might give him a second look. Of course it won't get them to vote for him, but it catches their attention.

4. Most importantly. . .
. . .and fortunately for Clark (but not necessarily the process) something like the Outkast comment and the dap or pound (touching of the fists with the bearded kid) are enough for younger voters to give him a second look. Fortunately he is the real deal and I assume a lot of young voters will see that upon further examination.

10. Outkast is a hip hop act. . .
They have two hots songs out right now:

Hey Ya and I Like The Way That You Move.

The two guys who front the group released solo albums but they did them together at the same time.

19. LOL
The last pop music I made it a point to listen to was Prince. After Prince, I didn't like the direction that black culture was taking the legacies of James Brown and Parliament/Funkadelic. I can't listen to the vast majority of rap music for more than a few minutes without getting disgusted. Give me Jazz, R&B, and Classical, or give me silence.

Clark, by the way, is said to have quite the dry sense of humor; I wouldn't be surprised if this was his idea.

37. If you like Prince
you'd actually really like Andre 3000's disc The Love Below, which as the above poster noted is extremely experimental and has received a lot of comparisons to Prince.

67. If you like Funkadelic, you might like Outkast.
Their music is clearly inspired by George Clinton and Bootsy Collins. They are very different from most hip hop groups. Their lyrics are generally not gratuitous, do not glorify violence and are usually quite humorous even when they take on serious subjects.

73. Maybe I'll give them a listen.
I love Parliament, love the direction that Prince moved funk in, but after Prince got out of the pop business as rap became more and more popular, I lost interest.

I'm happy to say I have heard some outstanding young R&B and Soul artists, like India.Arie and Maxwell, but by and large, I'm totally out of it when it comes to new music, and pop music is a waste land to me.

16. Big Boi's disc is more conventioanl hip hop, but with political overtones
and straighter pop appeal. Andre's disc is all over the map, with elements of rock, jazz, and broadway showtunes, and almost no rapping. It's almost avant-garde compared to most hip hop these days.

12. They're an eclectic hiphop duo who just released a great album...
It's a two-disc set, with Andre taking one disc and Big Boi taking the other, with no collaborating. Since the two rappers' taste and styles are now very different, and they released two singles by both rappers at the same time, and neither appears in the other's video, the disc and subsequent brouhaha has led to rumors that they are breaking up.

This is so awesome hat the Clark campaign thought of this. Reminds me of Clinton's strategy in 92-target the young and hip via their favored media outlets, and it's in the bag.

I never thought politicians were attractive before. I really like Clinton a lot for his politics, but I never saw the sex appeal thing other women talk about. I also like Gore a lot, and think he is handsome, but still don't think much beyond that. But to me, Clark does seem to appeal in that department! He has some sort of cool that other politicians don't have. Maybe it's just because he is new, but there is something.

That ad was funny and great. Also Kucinich wore the same outfit and looked good too.

39. Re: "Pandering to the black vote"
I totally understand your sarcasm, but unfortunately, I'm expecting to hear that kind of criticism from the Repugs....however, what they won't get is a big segment of the audience listening to OutKast and hip-hop are middle-class surburban kids, and most of 'em ain't black....Clark is trying to appeal to a diverse audience and from what I can see, there's no equivalent to that on the right. :)

if he gets the nomination and the election isn't rigged. I just don't see where Smirk's votes will come from vs. The General. Fundies and the richest 2% or so? Clark will pull over/bring back soldiers, Southerners, women, GLB, Kennedy Dems, Reagan Dems, miorities, fiscal conservatives. He'll get Gore's 50% plus about 10% more.

There were probably more than 100 people rallying for Clark outside Faneuil Hall before the forum, then we all went back to a bar to watch the forum. Everyone loved that remark! We thought he did well in the whole thing. After the forum was over, Clark stopped by to thank us for our support and speak for a few minutes (with a lot of slamming bush involved in his words).

42. Don't forget this new song from Outkast.
Here are the lyrics to "War" which appears on Big Boi's half of Outkast's new double album. IMHO this song could be a big hit.

P.S. Sorry, this copied over weird.

"War"

As I, struggle to keep my balance and composure
I'm 'posed ta, propose a toast to players on every coast-a
The lyrical roller coaster, mind-bender
'Stead of watchin these sucker MC's
I'm seein just how they lyin to the general population
Don't be patient, get up and stand up for your life
Don't you agree or understand we lost some rights at 1-1-9?
Come dumb, come young, come blind unwind confined
to the situation, we facin, cause in time, tick tick boom

Tick, boom.. tick, tick-boom
Tick, boom.. tick, tick-boom
Tick, boom.. tick, tick-boom
Tick, boom.. tick, tick-boom

When will we all, awake up out this dream
Come here and smell the Folgers, the soldiers are human beings
Man actin as if he was the supreme bein
Clockin the souls of men out like he was G-O-D and
W-A-Rrah, there'll be no tomorrow but sorrow
and horror will follow the hollow hearts battle for dollars
Politicians, modern day magicians
Physicians of death, more health care for poor health
Who makin us ill, they makin us kill
That's makin me spill my guts (chill Big, lay in the cut)
For what? I refuse to sit in the backseat and get handled
Like I do nuttin all day but sit around watch the Cartoon Channel
I rap about, the Presidential election and the scandal
that followed, and we all watched the nation, as it swallowed
and chalked it up, basically America you got FUCKED
The media shucked and jived now we stuck - damn!

Operation Anaconda - ask yourself
was it full of bleeps and blunders, did they ever find Osama?
And why in the fuck did Daniel Pearl have to pay the price
for his life and his wife plead twice?
See Al-Amin got life and Fred got dead, Hampton
To dampen the dream of all the Panthers
They got they answer for ransom
As we read together, as we dream together
Count your blessings whenever you feel that things won't be no better
But it got to, you gave me this microphone so I must rock you
Your brainwaves, airwaves, energized and SHOCKED you
Y'all got me, well I got y'all, long as I know y'all listenin
I'ma always bring food for thought to the table in the kitchen
Now eat nigga!

59. Fantastic ad
Clark managed to both look hip and make fun of himself for trying to look hip at the same time. It was brilliant.

So is OutKast.

If I were gonna vote for someone solely based on their 30-second spots last night, I would go Clark.

The big loser, of course, was Lieberman. Where'd he get that dance beat? Did it come with his Barbie radio? Tragically lame.

...by the way, this username was supposed to be a joke that I'd change after a few days. Turns out I'm not sure if I can change my username. I might have to just make a different account, since I'm pretty sure I'm gonna catch flack for the B word. Sorry in advance to whoever's about to get offended.

61. More importantly. . .
. . .the ad won't get people to vote for Clark but it will cause them to give him a second look.

62. The ad wil be remembered as the Clinton's playing sax on Arsenio
And he looked very sexy in black (first time the notion occured to me).
And here's a little gossip on dressing:
From Chris Suellentrop over at Slate:
http://slate.msn.com/id/2090748/

...
Still, Kucinich couldn't top Wesley Clark for the best moment of the evening. In the spin room after the debate, Matt LaBash of the Weekly Standard asks the general what he thought when he noticed the two candidates were wearing the same outfit. Clark pauses, as if he's unsure of how to take this, then says, "I thought Dennis Kucinich had excellent taste."

69. Yes, I loved this ad...
I wish more candidates would do ads that showed they were you know.... human.

The best thing that ever happened to Al Gore, were the last few days of the campaign when he became an actual human being. His appearance on Letterman was beautiful, and his last couple speeches right before the election were funny, honest, personalble and inspiring.

I would give anything if the candidates would make ads that were a little more "hip" and possibly even lively or dare I even say... humorous?
